Do you have a bad temper? On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being worst, where do you rate on the scale? 10 is worst with ramifications such as physically assaulting someone, battering someone, plotting murder, etc.

I have red hair and a moderately bad temper. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being worst I think the worst my temper has been is about a 7 on a 10-scale. At level 5 to 6, I yell or honk the horn if I'm in a car. When I get upset at level 7 I write letters and contact CEOs of companies (if it was a company that offended me). The worst I've ever been is an 8 and that is when I contacted an attorney about my AT&T Wireless phone (crappy) service.

Next question: How do you cope with a bad temper? Any good coping methods? Or do you just exact revenge when your temper goes wacko?

I think that the redhead stereotype comes from redheads supposedly being Irish - and I've heard the phrase, "He has an Irish temper" when I was growing up also - and the Irish being stubborn and ready to knock someone out.

My worst was when I threw my lawnmower. I had just had it. It was really hot and the thing was really annoying me. Then a deflector under it got bent and hit the blade, stalling it. So I went and got a sledgehammer and beat the crap out of it until the deflector broke off, then instead of just resting it back on it's feet I picked it up and threw it. Not far, mind you, but airborn for a few feet.

But if I blow my top once every 5 years, that's a lot. It's rare for me to get to that level. What's that, an 8 maybe?

I go up to 11 (that's 1 angrier, innit?), although it's tempered with Englishness (i.e. takes a lot to snap) and I prefer damaging objects rather than people.

An ex-girlfriend tried to run me over once (she'd got it into her brain that I was cheating on her, when in fact nothing of the sort was happening). I snapped, ended up putting my fist through her windscreen (empty passenger side).

Quite rare occurrence. It's been at least 10 years since I went above a 2 on the scale.

If someone is purposely trying to piss me off I purposely remain extremely calm, sarcastic and uninterested. This just pisses them off more so they try even harder yet I maintain my cool.

In the end they end up driving themselves nuts without me raising my voice or showing that I care what they have to say.

If someone does something stupid like cut me off when crossing the street I might kick the car or bang on the hood but I wouldn't walk up to them screaming and punch them in the face.

Then again if I saw someone hurt an Animal I'd go up to a 10 in no time.

In my head, I suppose I’m a 7 or so. Doesn’t take all that much to make me see red, just a bit, in my own head.

What I actually show outwardly, even just in my expression, is more about a 2, I’d say.

Usually, one of the things that gets me very pissed is anger. I used to live in a house with a few other people; one of them was a girl who was a pure 10. She would have at least three or four ‘outbreaks’ per day, screaming (really screaming, to the point where you startered wondering if you were going to find her lungs lying on the floor some day) over the most idiotic things, usually while on the phone with her mother. As time progressed, every time she had one of those ‘outbreaks’, I felt a stronger and stronger desire to just really hit her. Really hard. Over the head. With a combine harvester.

Apart from that sort of thing, very few things actually make me angry.

(Yeah, I’m a redhead too, by the way, though not quite as fiery-red as Paul)

No kidding. If he pulled that **** down here, they'd just run him over (or come out of the car and kick his ass up and down the street).

Edit: I'm a 1-5, anything more than 5 (arguing without screaming) and I usually just walk away. I can be pushed beyond that, but it gets scary.

I don't know what my temper level is because my tempers vary from what's going on and who I have to deal with. I know someone who's so lucky to not get tempers because he's not even a person.

Only once have I ever really lost my temper, I was walking home from work late one night around 1 am along a main street. Some roudy guys drove going around 30 mph and threw an egg that hit me sqaure in the chest. I turned around and ran 3 blocks after them where they were stuck behind two cars at a stop light. I pulled one of those campaign signs out of the ground and swung at their car, busted out the back passenger window as they sped off.

Honestly I would say in most cases the worst I go might be a 4. I'm typically a 2 though. My YG kids knew that they'd really have to do something to get me ticked off. and if I did get irritated with them they knew it was cause I was disappointed in them.
With people at school it takes a lot for them to ever see me mad. The only time I ever really lost it was after I told my roomie I was gay, and he flipped out (yah I know worst decision ever but it seemed like a good idea at the time.) That was also when my iBook was in the shop, and I'd just finished a big stressful drama thing that night that had drawn on all week. And even then I just swore at him a couple times and stormed out of the dorm room and walked along the high way in minus 40 weather for an hour. Only time I've ever been mad at God.

Typically I'm just a 2 though, I give witty and sarcastic responses to anything that irritates me a bit, so things never build up. I tend to refuse to take life seriously.

Only other time I've been mad at school, like really mad, was when some guys were talking late in the sub lounge by our room and I'd asked them several times to be quiet, because my roomie had a hugely important aviation test the next day (his private pilot license) and it was 3 am. Eventually I went into the sub lounge, leaned my head over the back of the couch looking the ring leader, and yelled at the top of my lungs, "RYAN QURAKER! WHAT PART OF SHUT THE **** UP DON"T YOU UNDERSTAND!?" Apparently I woke up half the dorm, but didn't wake up the RAs so I didn't get a noise violation.
