My internal DVD drive has been out of commission for quite some time now, and have been relying on my external firewire drive. Is there anyway to boot off a CD in a firewire drive? Holding C doesnt help, choosing it as my startup disk or holding option at startup doesn't do it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try holding down the option key at boot.

I actually, I just double click on the "Install OS X" (or whatever) file that prompts to restart....that'll make it boot from the CD....
However, I have also used it to boot CD's by choosing the CD in the Startup Disk PrefPane....I don't recall ever trying the "C" key method via this drive....

What drive is it? I've heard of incompatabilities before...you may have a non-supported drive....

Hmm could be related, but I got it to work. All I had to do was borrow my buddie's old CD-ROM drive out of his old HP and put it in mine. I know it's a drive out of a PC, but I got Panther installed. Hey, the end justifies the means, right? Anyway thanks for your quick replies and all your help, much appreciated.
