Well that went well then.
I can kind of understand the scrambling of album art. It's complex what with different covers. Best odd etc. And hey it's not the end of the world, but the whole DRM your own music thing is madness.
If I cancel my subscription I loose all the music I already own??

And locking out home sharing. And iTunes is STILL a mess.

For a company as wrapped up in music as Apple is how come this mess can continue for so long!

Don't forget the record companies always have a hobbling hand in some of these things.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

The removal of Home Sharing in 8.4 is a shitty thing, I'm not happy about that at all.

They don't DRM the music you own. The original files remain, but if you download them again on another device with the same account, they will be DRMed. Same way, if you delete your original files and redownload them from Apple Music on the same device, they will be DRMed. And you will be an idiot for deleting your files.

Home Sharing sucks though.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I don't know why they wouldn't have insisted on including home sharing in the rights. Bizarre.

Out of curiosity, why? What sold you on Spotify versus Apple Music?

About that… I switched computers since iTunes Match was introduced, so I have been streaming my entire purchased library since then. I have a backup of the music I purchased up to the point I started using iTunes Match, but not for music purchased since then, probably a couple thousand worth. It's not that big of a deal for me since I will likely only be using Apple products in the future, but it still feels like the rug has been pulled out from under you.

I'm completely out of iTunes as a music service/source now and I regret having supported it in the past.

On a separate note, iTunes completely $#&@ed up my iTunes library.

And by that, I mean it corrupted the original files.
Videos have the names of music files, music files that of iOS apps, some files show as Excel or text files.
Stuff got moved around in different folders, Movies show up in folders named after iOS apps etc...
Completely f&$#ed up, beyond repair.

I'm gonna have to start from scratch, restoring from backup and iTunes match.

iTunes is such a clusterf$#@.

QualIt's of content, quality of curation, and I am following a bunch of interesting people on spotify. No need for me to switch, especially with the recent nonsense.

HFS+ is such a clusterF. Sounds like you have file system corruption. I don't think iTunes would do that.

I think the "following the interesting people" is the most compelling one, here.

Stick with your guns! No reason to shift for you, really.

Second on this. It wouldn't surprise me if most of iTunes tag editing, etc is related to a HFS issue. May be something we can look into...

Oh gawd, I was hoping this is contained to iTunes.
At least, iTunes seems to bring out the worst of everything. Ugh.

Edit: Duh, well, no, it's not HFS+.
My iTunes Library is on my Synology, which uses ext4.

I'm beginning to think Synology + iTunes is not a winning combination.
I'm not the only one. iRunes is doing something.

Oh I F#$&ing hate Apple. These idiots.

Started from scratch on my iPhone, deleted all music, turned iTunes Match off. Restarted phone.
Music library is empty.

As soon as I turn iTunes Match on, the Music app starts downloads of random pieces of music, no rhyme or reason. Single songs, not full albums. WTF ? I canceled everything.

For now, I only wanted to download ONE Playlist, 56 songs. Click on "Make available Offline".
Music starts downloading 1,296 songs. WTFFFFFFF!!1!1??? Now it's clogged, trying to download that many songs makes it stall.

I'm so tired of all this crap. WTF, Apple ?

Everything works well for me. Interface is much improved than before. I do, however, have a small library. Liking it so far.

I have just a few songs purchsed though iTunes. I have dozens of CDs I have yet to import. Will the changes made affect music imported from CDs?

The key to all this is not deleting your original files off the hosting machine. Home sharing being dead is... problematic, though.

No issues after the update but also not using the new service. I hate the new look and find it cumbersome.
Apple has gone too far in the wrong direction for my tastes lately, they should fix bugs not things that already work.

The news crew posted this, it does seem like external storage is an issue?

Not external storage, that seems fine. Network storage.

Source: Me.

However, that gave me a thought. Some of the NAS boxes in my possession can be directly connected to a host through USB. I may try that when I'm physically back home.

"We are working for music home sharing in iOS 9" doesn't mean that they're coding for it. Seems to me, the code is built.

This feels like licensing discussions to me. It's not in the current beta build.

Either way it seems like it will be back. And like maybe its not Apple's fault. They take an awful lot of blame for stuff the record companies do.

Yeah, we said from the get-go it seemed like a record industry thing.
