It's up and running again, with all posts, threads, users, PMs intact. We've even made a few small updates.

There is an unresolved display problem affecting the News forums and one archive - we've hidden those for now.

Somewhere between 5% and 20% of attached images did not have their display code translated properly. The images are hosted, but the display tags are broken. This was missed somehow during beta testing. It may get addressed. We'll also be looking into activating attachment services - that was convenient.

It's good to be back.

Note: Anyone who created their account under Huddler must reset their password. Huddler uses a different hashing technique - it was not possible to import their passwords.

New posts is coming up blank though which is where I typically jump in - otherwise would have been here sooner.

Just noticed that - it's the same glitch that affects several forums. It will have to be looked at another night, unless our server people figure it out sooner.

If I try

http://forums.macnn.com/search.php?do=getnew

which is legacy then I get nothing.

Using

http://forumsdev.macnn.com/search.php?searchid=3015138

I get a blank page - though I do think the number has changed from ..5137 as I just posted recently.

It behaves like a PHP low-memory error. But all the people with access to that setting have gone to bed.

Thank you! I'd about given up on coming here, and when I saw the message a few days ago about the forums being down for maintenance, I dared hope. Sometimes change isn't good.

It is, and its taken me no adjustment to go back to it after huddler. I automatically went to the links at the bottom to switch between forums, and a few other things came straight back too.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Search results work again. And the blank News pages are fixed.

All attached images were imported broken because I'd forgotten a folder in the URL path. Also, several image tag cases did not convert properly. Two special cases are now fixed, affecting ~250 posts and 8 PMs. I'll work on a more general case tomorrow night.

Is there a way to turn off the little thread synopsis mouseover thingies? They bug me, for some reason.

Is it me or is Feedback excluded from the New Posts results? Also, will bannings from the tech and mac news forums be possible again?

Edit: Newer gaming forum threads aren't appearing but I see older ones down the list. Dafuq?

Edit 2: So any thread I visit but isn't updated disappears from the new posts lists? Not sure I like this behavior.

You don't afaik. A thread should be marked read when loaded, but as soon as there are new posts, that would change its status again.

From a forum/subforum page, you can mark it read by clicking the wrench icon in the top right of the border, then choosing mark forum read.

I didn't have an opinion on vB vs huddler, but I just want the admin and mods to know I appreciate their hard work. They clearly are concerned about the best experience of the users here.

I use two bookmarks.
New Posts <- only unread threads
Today's Posts <- all recent threads

The tooltip text is a global setting. If there's enough disagreement we'll need a poll. Or a possibly involved hack to offer individual choice. At the moment, I'm being asked in another thread to extend the tooltips to latest post. And revise their code to work in Mobile Safari.

I am in two minds with tooltips. They are great for threads which you think are bullshit and a quick mouse over confirms it. I however hate it when they hang around for too long and get in the way.

I think all images are converted now, though a few were not latched due to out-of-sequence image numbers.

In the meantime, I hacked in something new. If someone is banned, they get an error page listing the reason and expiration date. Now, if a Spammer is banned, they get this modified error page:

Definitely nice seeing the old layout back. One thing that I do miss from the Huddler forum was the button that took you directly to the new posts in a thread. Is there any way to incorporate that feature into the "old/new" forum?

Top right, it's an arrow pointing down.

That Huddler feature wasn't working correctly for me the last month anyway.

@Dakar ... you are the MAN! I never noticed that there. That being said, I will quibble a bit and say that new implementation requires you to open the thread first and then click that button ... so it's a 2 step process instead of a 1 step process in the Huddler implementation. Not quite as convenient but definitely better than nothing. Certainly not the end of the world. In any event, thanks for the tip!

Like I said, it wasn't working on Huddler for me the last month. And while it's a two step process, I bet you you can still do it faster since Huddler's load times were atrocious.

Edit: If you click on the "Last Post" name it'll take you to the last post. Not great if you haven't read the rest of the posts but works if you're up-to-date on the thread.

Most of the forum links aren't working for me.

http://forums.macnn.com/ links to:
Mac Desktops - MacNN Forums
Mac Notebooks - MacNN Forums
Consumer Hardware & Components - MacNN Forums
etc, all of which redirect to /f/#number which is page not found.

edit: Now they work.

mduell, can you save source code on an affected page, or try a different browser? I'm not seeing any of those examples.

Those /f/ URLs are all Huddler ones. We're on our own server and the vB codebase now, so it has to be cache somewhere. And can't reasonably be on our end.

There is an import bug where many PMs got redated to Jan 4 - the date the PMs were converted. This may get corrected as time allows.

Is there a way to hide the Newposter threads from appearing when hitting the "New Posts" button ?

More than half the appearing threads are from that. It really sucks, as I'm not interested in that at all.

Dang, I was sure Ignore would work properly under vB. Hiding threads until/unless someone else posts in them. Maybe a plugin can force that behavior - will look into it as time permits.

In the meantime, we can ban you from the News forums on request.

Yes, let's try that. Are you sure it will exclude all new posts from that forum to appear in my "new posts" listing ?

It was the links I posted previously. The problem wasn't the links on the page, the problem was they were being redirected.
