I have noticed over the past month that my pismo is not charging. I couldn't figure it out until today. The cord that connects to the power supply is sparking at the end near the round connector. I am going to call apple about this, but it is out of warrenty. I was hoping they might care because it looks like a fire hazard.

There is nothing on the round puck that is wrong, only the cord. If they don't want to replace it, I hope I can buy just the cord... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

If it is a defect of some sort, rather than anything you've done, they should be willing to replace it in order to investigate the failure.

This just happened to me on my Pismo puck style adapter (maybe 2 weeks ago). As soon as I told them it was sparking they escalated the call to Quality Control. The rep I spoke with asked me a few questions (was anyone hurt, anything damaged, etc.), and confirmed the address that the new adapter should be sent to. He told me he would call me back by the next morning and let me know if Apple wanted the old adapter back for testing. I received a call the next morning that they didn't want the adapter back and that a new one was in the mail.

Received it the next day. Also the style is slightly different and the plug fits into the laptop much better.

Moral of the story: Apple's tech support can be quite good and prompt, I have had nothing but great experiences with them (and thankfully, only a few experiences). Give them a call on Monday, you'll be glad you did.

PS for a bit of humor, look at the bottom of the puck

Just got off the phone with apple. They really didn't want to listen to me until I said sparking. They asked the same questions from above (anyone hurt, etc.). I don't have an apple care warrenty, so they charged my $14 for the cable. They didn't seem to want mine either. Maybe the new one will hold up better.

BTW, I showed the cable to someone at work and he noticed that the other end of the cable where the plug is also looked like it had some sparking going on.

Exact same problem about 6 months ago. Walked into the Apple store and told them what was up. Didn't even want me to show them how it sparked. They walked into the back and grabbed me a new power cable. Replaced it free of charge. They took the old one and chucked it in the trash under the counter.
