I have an admin account on the machine and was wondering if I could just switch between two user accounts so that I could keep my user and all the apps running and log into another at the same time instead of closing everything and starting over.

If you listen to a UNIX shell do you
hear the C?

You can be logged into multiple terminal sessions as different users, but not the GUI.

not to be annoying but do you know any more details other than "not for a few months" or a web site, even a rumor site just something I can use to speculate further with.

I consider myself a rumor-munger and I haven't heard that a multi-user GUI would be in Panther. I hope it is true, but I don't think it will be.
I guess there really isn't any reason why you couldn't do it... Apple just has to implement it.

I think that You could do it if you open a terminal login as someone else and launch the a second finder as that person... just speculating though...
