Hey all,

I recently ended my experiment with that turd called the Zune. Since moving to NYC, I use my iPod constantly, so sometimes the music got a little old. I decided I wanted a sub. based service so I went with the Zune. Keep in mind that I only really wanted to get it for the sub. service...here's why I think the Zune is total turd, besides the fact that I got the brown one...

1)The music library sucks. A lot of the "good" stuff that I would like to listen to was for purchase only.
2)The music on the Zune itself skipped all the time. The buffer was either too small or non existant. If you attempted to do anything with the unit while music was loading it would skip.
3)Interface...ugh, while the execution was well done, it was slow, slow, slow. For example, when you hit the volume it would take a few seconds to update. Sometimes songs would take up to 10 seconds to change once you hit the >> button.
4)Battery life was so-so.

So, the whole experience was not fun at all. Oh please great Stevie J, please let me back to the club.

Anyone else come back to the iPod from a Zune?

I found a Zune on the side of the road. I guess someone else isn't happy with it too.

This is not really the Zune's fault: You need to update the OS to SP2 minimum and get MS OneCare Antivirus/Spyware and do daily scans. It also helps if you maxx out the Ram and overclock the CPU (water-cooling may help?). There are many people that have hacked their Zune and got acceptable performance.

You've got to be kidding, there is no way microsoft can expect every user to have to hack zune in order to get it to work properly. That'd be complete bullshit.

That's what I said originally. But I tried the whole WinXp --> SP1 --> SP2 --> SP3 --> WinXp (no SPs) -----> SP4 before I finally settled on Win SP1 with a slipstream of SP2.

I have tried most Windows AntiVirus Software out there before settling on Norton AV Corporate (2002 Norton AV). I stayed true to Zone Alarm for a firewall. (you will still need some type of Spyware checker also!!)

Don't give up!! -You can get that Zune to work. Give it a few years - most Microsoft products take time and a few updates before they work right. By 2008 Zune will work.

Whatever you do -do not register your Zune. If you need to reinstall the software or a new registration code -Microsoft will not give you a new one and will force you to pay again (the Zune hardware was free, but the Zune OS is $250). Use your firewall to disconnect any contact with Microsoft and their registration queries.
