Assuming you had the money to burn and the room to store it, what old Apple gear would you buy to collect and why?

Cube. Duh.
Original blueberry iBook. Great laptops for their time.
Mac SE/30. A Plus is nice but not very useful. An SE/30 still runs like a champ.
TiBook. Loved them.

Well, I've got all the old Apple gear I want without having to buy it right now... except for manuals. I'm into buying old Apple II manuals by Apple.

I have an Apple IIc with all the stuff that it came with in the box. And I have an Apple IIgs (also with all the stuff it came with in the box) with several interface cards (like the accelerator card my brother found in a dumpster... those things go for like, $450+ on eBay these days). And I have a Power Macintosh 7600/120 (with a PowerLogix 300 MHz G3 card that I paid $750 for back in the day).

I'd try to get the full package. Biggest monitor it could handle (the see through kind) the globe speakers, the black keyboard and mouse. maxed out as much as possible. yummy

The cube is the coolest computer apple has made in my opinion, but I'd really like to get my hands on a Lisa or a NeXT Cube.

Also—not to break up the cube love fest—but I was cleaning out my closet this weekend, and decided that it's time to let the cube go. If anyone is interested drop me a PM and I'll ping you when it's ready to go.

Totally. I never intended to be an Apple collector, but somehow I ended up with 1st gen iPod, QuickTake 100, Newton 110, cube, and a TI book. I got them all used, but I bought each thing to use and not to collect. I used them them until I upgraded and they've been taking up space since.

Oh, Stogieman, if you've never seen a KeyLime iBook in person, consider yourself lucky. I saw a demo unit at a reseller one time, and the color was literally eye piercing; I could hardly stand to look at it.

I have a Messagepad 130 and a Messagepad 2100 around here somewhere. I just bought an excellent condition eMate a few months back. Still has the original stylus. Pretty cool little notebook.

well, i may reload os9 on the cube to run diablo 1... just needs a new hard drive. and if i found an old airport card it'd be a nice internet kiosk...

i mostly just collect pocket knives, they're easier to store.

I have a G4 cube - I love it. I remember when the first came out, I rushed out as soon as compusa had them in stock.

I also have a Macintosh color classic, though I've not fired that up in some time.

I collect a moderate amount of Apple stuff. My gf thinks I need help.

Lotsa oldies: Quadras, Classics, PM8500, PM7500, PB 2300, PB 5300, G5s, MacBook (1st rev)... I am being forced to toss a iMac (FW Orange Rev 2?)
edit: and an iBook 1st rev that works nicely.

My favorite Apple things are an Apple rainbow logo laptop bag, and about 40 Apple stickers that are just waiting to be pasted onto something en masse.

But I wouldn't buy any of it, except for original Apple rainbow stickers.

These are mine:

Cube 1.7 GHz, SuperDrive, GeForce 6200 <-- Used mainly for LogMeIn.com for access of my work computer, and for general surfing and light work when I'm doing something disk heavy on my C2D iMac.

Cube 450 MHz, Region free DVD-ROM, GeForce 6200 <-- Hooked up to my MIDI keyboard, but I rarely actually use it. Works great for LogMeIn and OK for surfing, I keep mainly as a backup for my other Cube.

iMac G4 1.25 <-- I have it at work, cuz work provides me with a PC only. Has USB 2.

iBook G4 800 <-- I bought it because it was only $300, and included 1.25 GB RAM and wireless. Once Apple releases new form factor MacBooks, I'll upgrade, but I'll keep the iBook G4 800 for the guest room/as a backup. Has USB 2.

I didn't bother keeping older computers because I can't use them, but I will likely always keep my iMac G4 and the Cubes.

I'd get a TAM a Lisa and maybe an original Mac.

Can't see anything else doing anything value wise and only the Lisa looks like having any real collectable value.

Just for the look I'd have my G3 Wallstreet back but i'm not springing actual ca$h money for one atm.

I've got an Apple II Plus, with monitor and disk drives, which is pretty cool. It worked perfectly last I checked, which was about 5 years ago. No idea if the dust in my closet has done it disservice or not.

I've got a Mac Classic too… but that's about it. I had a Newton 2100 with the Keyboard and everything, but had to sell it a few years back to help pay for school…

Just not worth the space anymore. I was keeping them but I just ran out of enthusiasm for them and the Quad and 8500 fetched no offers on the bay.

I'm kinda surprised I don't see more mention of the Pismo. The pismo and cube have always been favorites of mine.

I'll never forget my 7100/66 which was my family's first Mac or my MDD which was my first Mac.

A cube, a TAM, and a tangerine iBook to match my tangerine iMac. One that I own is a decked out G3 Wallstreet with a 466 MHz G3, 512 Mb of RAM, and a (new) 80 Gb HDD. Sucks that OS X can only run on 8 Gb of it though.

Of course, I'd love a cube and TAM. I have a Color Classic, an old StyleWriter 2600, and some odds n' ends of old Apple hardware. A newton would be cool, as would a Pismo. (Or the fabled round prototype.) I do think the Cube/Sawtooth/G4 iMac era was the best designs I've ever seen out of Apple.

Why? What do you do with it that you couldn't do with anything else? I still want one but can't see what I'd do with it.
