Did you get the expedited shipping? I did, since (1) what's another $15 when you're spending thousands? And (2) I knew that, bad as the wait for shipment would be, another wait while it's in transit would kill me.

I'm holding out hope that it ships early this week and gets here before the weekend. Ordered March 4, est ship date April 27.

Mine just updated this morning that it has already gone through Alaska, and then went from New Jersey to Tennesee. Delivery should be the 22nd. Too bad I'm away on business all week. I have to wait until fridiay night.

OK, this is getting to be too much! Ordered 3/4, est ship 3/27, but it seems like everyone else already has his Macbook...

So my question is, are there problems shipping units with 7200 RPM hard drives? Are folks getting those machines about a week early, like everyone else?

If it makes you feel any better, I ordered a 2.0 GHz MBP on exactly the same day you did, with exactly the same estimated ship date, and mine hasn't been shipped either. ( Mine is not using the 7200 RPM drive, but is a CTO.)

I'm getting anxious as my first rev 12" PowerBook is showing its age while I'm using it for professional Ruby on Rails development every day.

Anxious as it may seem, I too wanted to order the MBP 2.0Ghz w/7200rpm drive (Apple Online) but read that there might be a 1-2 week wait period. So last night I drove to my local Apple Store and bought it without the 7200rpm hd (AS Just Received Shipment). They claimed that the 7200rpm is a custom order through the online apple store along with the 2.16Ghz upgrade.

Glad to be back on a MAC!

I have exactly the same order (MBP 2.0ghz, 7200rpm drive) ordered online (Canadian store) on 5 March, ship date 27 March. I phoned just now to upgrade my shipping method to express, and asked about estimated ship times. The lady at the other end of the phone confirmed 'on or before 27 March' but said that she was currently getting them out 'a day or two ahead of schedule'. So I'm hoping to get my shipment notification on Thursday or Friday this week.

Getting it Monday is better than getting it next Friday... but this is the weekend my wife and son are out of town, so I was really hoping to have the Macbook to fill the empty hours with...

I ordered mine on 2/25, ship date 3/27. They still haven't charged my credit card or made it so I can't cancel. It kind of has me worried as well, as I'm reading about others who have ordered thiers after me and already have shipment notifications.

Looks like we're the tail end of the early rush and 27/3 is the day they clear their backlog. That's life I guess.

OMG OMG OMG, the credit card credit line has been deducted the exact amount of my MBP, but shows no activity. Maybe it didn't register yet lol. Anyways, does it mean it's shipped????? I checked my order status and it still shows "not yet shipped." HAPPY DAY! A whole week+ earlier if that's the case.

When did you order? They do the transaction in two parts. The day you order, they put a hold on that amount of money. Right before they ship, they put through the charge.

To make a long story short, I originally ordered on the 21st of Feb, but due to a mix up in method of payment they reprocessed my order on the 8th of March which had a shipment date of the 29th of March and delivery of April 5th. But my early delivery could be due to the fact that I didn't lose my space when I did originally order it on the 21st. But technically I didn't get it earlier since I did order it exactly a month ago.

I have overnight shipping, when do you think it'll get here? I still haven't gotten my shipment email from Apple though.

How long after you can no longer cancel an order does it ship out, generally speaking?

I wouldn't risk trying to cancel so you know when your MBP is arriving. Just create an online account w/ the credit card you used and see if your funds have been deducted.

There it is, took half a day for it to be shipped after cc got charged. But why does it still take 5 days to ship when it is overnight shipping? Take a look, any input is appreciated. SO SIKED!

I ordered the same day as you, SLam, did you order a stock model or a custom config?

I also called Apple today to question the logic of their ordering system (i.e. why someone who orders today will likely receive their MBP a full 1 to 2 weeks sooner than someone who ordered last week), and of course wasn't really given a shred of actual information, much less a decent explanation. The guy just kept saying I could cancel my order and place it again and potentially receive it sooner but that he highly discourages it, and that there's no way for them to determine what will ship when. (This being my first Mac, I'm needless to say a little awe-struck and unnerved by the apparent incompetence and indifference of Apple's customer service).

One thing he did let slip though, and I don't know if this actually indicates anything, but he mentioned that it listed my estimated ship date as "between 4/3 and 4/7", whereas the order status site lists only 4/7. Hmm. Maybe SLam and sworthy just got lucky...

Hm.......doesn't make any sense. I called Fedex Int'l and they said it missed the cutoff time on Wed(our Tu), so it's getting shipped on Th(our Wed). If it's overnight, i could it makes it here by Fri -_- doesn't take 24 hrs to fly from Shanghai to San Francisco especially when it gains time travelling counter clock-wise.

Here's a question: it's 21:00 in China right now (at 08:00 EST). Does anyone know whether the Chinese facility is manned around the clock, or what its business hours are?

In other words, what is the timestamp on most people's shipment notifications? If it's night in China, should we expect nothing to happen until tomorrow (their time)? If so, their work day doesn't start till around 20:00 EST, andd we wouldn't expect any shipment notifications before 04:00 EST tomorrow...

I was trying to cancel for other reasons, but that's beside the point. If you click on the "cancel items" link, it takes you to a screen where you select which items to cancel. If you can't cancel something, it'll tell you there; you don't actually have to try to cancel anything. Many pages ago people noted this happening shortly before shipping, and indeed the notice linked to on the cancel screen says that a possible reason why something can't be cancelled is because it's being built or prepared for shipping.

"We're sorry, the items on your order can not be cancelled online. Click on "Why can't these items be cancelled?" to learn more."

"Your items can not be cancelled, because of one or more of the following reasons:

1. If you have just placed your order, please allow 60 minutes for our system to process it before trying to cancel. In some cases your items may not be eligible to cancel because we have begun the fulfillment process.
2. Your item has already been shipped.
3. Your item has already been cancelled.
4. Your item was electronically delivered.
5. Your item is being built or is being prepared for shipment and can no longer be cancelled."

I'd like to think they're about to ship, it's more likely to be that my order included AppleCare and the DVI to s-video converter which of course have already shipped.

So I called Fedex regarding my overnight shipping and they said they don't offer this type of service internationally. But it actually was was some sort of expedited service in Asia where those packages go a cosolidation center and gets shipped off right away.

So my MBP got shipped out a few hours ago along w/ 164 packages and I'm hoping it'll arrive on Fri. How long does customs usually take?

How is it that I managed to wait patiently for three weeks with scarcely a glance at my order status, but now with two working days left before ship date I'm frantically refreshing the page every ten seconds and cursing them for being so slow?

edit, 30 minutes later - they must have been reading this thread, IT HAS SHIPPED, REPEAT, THE MACBOOK PRO HAS *LEFT* THE FACTORY

As of 6:56 this morning (friday), mine's at the sorting facility in Mississauga, Ontario, about a two hour drive from here, yet the delivery date is listed as next tuesday at 6 pm. I'm really hoping they're being conservative and it will actually arrive today.

So I spoke w/ Apple and confirmed that they technically DO NOT have "overnight" shipping for orders not made in the US (ie. MBP), though that shipping option is available to you.

So if you selected overnight for your MBP, you probably got ripped off. Fedex also confirmed this as well, and that pisses me off.

When I was offered the overnight, the rep very well knew it was a MBP made in China that int'l shipping wasn't available for it. Wow, i've been lied to by the rep who didn't even skip a beat telling me this lie.

This totally blows, no wonder my Fedex page hasn't updated for over a day -_- i would of been happier if they just stuck w/ the regular shipping.

I had my presentation worked around the arrival of the laptop too, sigh.

Being lied to is one thing, but using it to compensate a customer who just bought a 2k laptop isn't very nice.

It *seems* like I always get this on FedEx packages sent from countries other than the US (and maybe Canada). I think it goes through this when it is in transit but hasn't cleared into FedEx's US facilities.

If I recall, I had this on both of my PowerBook 12" shipments and my airsoft gun from Hong Kong.

<snip>
When I ordered my Airsoft gun from Hong Kong (shipped via FedEx) and it got delayed in customs in Indiannapolis for a week, I called FedEx (as I had ordered 2 day shipment) and the answer I was given was that International shipments are handled as Overnight/2-Day/Regular once they clear customs. Which means that an overnight shipped package from China will take just as long to clear customs as any other shipping method, but once it is cleared it would reach you a day or two earlier than the standard shipping (which is usually about 3 days).

It looks like a lot of people's MBPs shipped today. Myself included. Ordered 3/4, est ship 3/27, actual ship 3/24. Unfortunately, 3/24 is a Friday and I'm not sure how much movement these international packages have over the weekend. Therefore I don't expect to get this until middle of next week.

I wasn't expecting mine to move very far after they listed it in Shanghai at 11.48pm 'after cutoff', but it moved on to Anchorage and in fact just now says 'departed Fedex location' so I expect it will get as far as their Canadian distribution centre in Mississauga before stopping for the weekend. So I'm optimistic for a Tuesday morning delivery - with an outside chance of Monday.

I guess it crossed the international dateline just in time to get an extra working day's travel.

When my cousin ordered his IBM which also had overnight shipping (from China), it arrived at his doorstep the next day.

I repeat, it has left Anchorage! It takes approximately 4 hrs to arrive to San Francisco. But since their hub for Northern Cali is in Sacramento, I'm hoping i can go pick it up there...ekkkk.

I just received my 1.83GHz MBP today. I am upgrading from a 1GHz Ti PB.

I will post some performance results later but here are the quick and dirty pros and cons.

Pros:

1- The screen is incredible bright, I had to set it to 50% because it is so bright.
2- Boot times are amazing.
3- Native apps scream.
4- Non native apps run about 10% to 20% faster than on my 1GHz Ti.
5- The screen angle is not an issue at all.
6- No more loud fans like my Ti. Thank goodness.
7- OS X screams!
8- The mag safe connector is great.
9- Airport range rocks!

Cons:

1- I have the annoying whine and it is completely unacceptable. I will be calling Apple in the AM because I will not be keeping the MBP if Apple cannot resolve this issue. This is a deal breaker for sure.
2- Adding RAM is a joke. Apple choose to use the smallest screws made. The worst design so far for adding RAM to a PowerBook. I mean MBP... Oh whatever.
3- The MBP does run hotter than my Ti. The bottom and the top left corner are noticeably hotter.
4- 512 MEG of RAM is not enough. I added an additional 512 MEG and the performance difference is amazing.
5- Only 4X DVD burining

The only "real" negative is the annoying whine. It is very annoying and unacceptable and I will be returning the MBP if I cannot get it resolved.

I will post some real world performance figures in the next couple of days.

AAAHHHHHHH!!!

after checking my email 15 times a day for the past week waiting for a shipment notification, today I come home and finally find an email from Apple in my inbox, and what is it?

"Save on rocking gear for spring break."

Another truly depressing chapter in my torturous 3 week wait...

LOL! Best reply ever I had one of those b4 my MBP shipped and it pissed me off.
I am constantly refreshing the Fedex page and from what I can tell, it has a two hour delay before they update the system.
