So I got bit by a spider and I need help figuring out what it is.
Here is a picture

It is tough to search google for something that you don't know the name of.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful. The bite is over a week old and it is just now starting to get ugly. It had all but gone away and then I decided to pick at it, now I have a huge crater in my forearm. It hurts and it's getting worse. Any help is appreciated.

Dude, you've been nailed by a Recluse.
My twin brother is still recovering from a bite.
It's the infection that gets you. The recluse has a necrotizing bacteria in it's venom.

alot different. Legs aren't hairy; different colors.

Doctor appt is later today. I was hoping to be able to tell him what it was. I was pretty sure that it is not a brown recluse - just based on the results of the bite. I dont have the giant gaping open wound, just a little volcano looking thing.

talks of treating same.

[How are these bites treated?
Frequently, when people with spider bites call the Poison Center, they think there is some special treatment that is necessary for their bite. There is no specialized therapy other than treating the symptoms. Most importantly, keep the wound clean to prevent infection. If the wound does not heal or does develop an infection, see your physician. Do not wait days and weeks while the wound continues to get worse.

There are tales of people having limbs amputated after spider bites. These involve people who refused to see a physician even though they had massive wounds that did not heal and became grossly infected. A wound that may have been originally treated with simple oral antibiotics, but left untreated, may require surgical intervention in extreme cases.]

Thanks for looking around 'Broad. I found a similar link just now

The bite itself is often not particularly painful. But over the next several hours, the poison begins to kill the tissues around it which is quite painful. This reaction gives a whitish appearance immediately surrounding the bite with a large reddened area around the white area.

This is exactly what is happening.

Dude, on this Japan forum I cruse someone posted some pictures of Japanese spiders.... man... how I am going to miss our small Wisconsin spiders compared to the giant Asian ones...

Find a number for the insect zoo at the smithsonian institution (museum of natural history) in Washington, DC- they helped me identify a spider over email within about 15 min- I called them, got an email, the looked at the pics and sent me a response right away- very nice, very helpful, very cool.

Just Google them.

A small volcano like bump is the sign of a spider egg sack. The baby spiders are probably making their way to your brain as I type this and you will soon be a slave to their will.

so thats that tingly feeling I have going up my arm.

Maybe I should go jump off a building or try to climb a wall or something.

One only ever uses antibiotics in the case of a clear bacterial infection. Inflammation, swelling and pain is clearly not the only result of a bacterial infection (tho it does typically indicate infection).

Please, for the love of Jah, don't go around thinking you need and then demand for antibiotics. A doctor might write an Rx, but that is a terrible idea. It results in strain resistant bacteria who were once killed by antibiotics. Even many doctors these days are treating just the symptoms and letting the immune system do the rest.

Well over the course of the day it has begun to clear a little. It still looks nasty, but the necrosis seems to have let up. The area of dead skin is all but gone (I mean, it's not progressing any further). I do however still have a mini volcano on my arm. The ooze has gone from yellow nastyness to clear and very liquidy. Got a prescription for something today - cant remember the name but I'll pick it up tomorrow. I didn't ask specifically for antibiotic, but I'm sure that is what he gave.

Well, I have a 7-2 Brewer that no matter how much I baby it, it gets smacked every time I take it out. And a 6-1 cracker that hasn't seen a scratch no matter how much I beat on it. You'll have to get in line for the Brewer.

He probably gave you Ceclor for the antibiotic.

I JUST recovered from a brown recluse bite that had me in the hospital for 3 days and out of work for 3 weeks.

My hospital bill so far is $8000.

I've been sick from that spider bite.

Lemme tell you, it's far worse than you can imagine.

I got bit on the wrist while sleeping, but I immediately went to the Doctor's office the next morning.

However necrosis set in quickly and my whole arm became infected with a secondary staph infection.

They cut the skin from my wrist and I got IV antibiotics for three days in the hospital and spent the next three weeks having bandages changed three times a day.

The only good note is I still have a hundred Oxycotins left over that I didn't take.

thanks for that. how big did the wound get? was it a crater that oozed yellow gunk? did it spread to a huge area like in some pics on the net?

today I am feeling pretty good. The necrosis has definately subsided a bit. I still have swelling though, and I can get the yellow gunk if I squeeze hard enough - but that hurts like a mother*******.

It ate out a hole the size of a half dollar.

By the time they got through with surgery, I could see the tendons below.

I had to allow the skin to regenerate because he was afraid of grafting into envenomated tissue.

The infection was the worst part. My whole arm swelled up and I was on IV antibiotics for 3 days.

Tell the doctor it feels like you have been hit with a hammer and you'll get some great pain meds.
