I hate the bright light from my MDD (moms and mine) and finally did a permanent solution tonight of electrical tape with the middle (where the button is) wrapped a second piece around so it doesn't stick to the button. Will do the same to my moms MDD when I go there in 2 weeks.

Now I can run it 24/7 with no annoying light (Beige G3 is next as it's my Music server until my MDD moves to my full time file server when I get a new workstation in 2 1/2 years.

Now how does everyone else deal with this annoying palsing light (if you sleep your Mac at night) or bright light (if you leave it fully on 24/7)?

I'm assuming you sleep in the same room as your Mac, and therefore consider it a problem. I don't have that problem
Glad you finally found a solution...

Just think of it as a night light and let the rhythm put you to sleep.

I have to turn it off when it's causing me to not sleep, which happens now and then.

The PowerBook I just put against a wall, or cover up. The problem with my G5 tower is that I have a light on the power button and on the touch-sensitive cinema display button. Hence I can stick anything on them

Heheh. The new iMacs dim the sleep light according to ambient room light. Works quite well. I wonder if the new Power Macs have this.

I noticed last night that the light seeped through the top of the top of the metal plate of the drive area. Not too bad (at least I know it's on ).

I love the light and especially when my Mac is sleeping. I love the soft pulsating glow it emanates.

Free the light!

Half of the fun of owning a computer is lots of different softly glowing LED lights from
various computers. With my desktop, the router, hub, midi interface, synthesizer, drum
machine, usb gooseneck light and laptop screen the screen is bathed in an evocative
photon stream that soothes. But I don't sleep in that room so.....

The G5's light is more dificult to cover up.
If you cover over the lamp on the front (I stuck a small lump of blue-tack over it), it just glows in to the inside of the case, making the entire front of the case glow through the mesh.

While the light doesn't bother me as its in a different room then my bedroom and I can see why it would bother people. As others have said having the pulsating light is part of the fun of owning a computer.

My Power Mac G5 is in my den so it doesn't bother me. But if the light from the G5 bothers you, what about the router and modem lights. I probably have more computer-related lights in my den than any other type of lights. I think, like Todd, I like some of the lights, like the blue ones on my speaker control pad and my external LaCie HD.

I like lights. Macs need more lights.

SOME people don't have the luxury of a 'den', and end up with there Mac in the corner of the bedroom, routers and modems can easily fit in cupboards, or end up behind desks.
When I had my old Sawtooth G4 I could lean a CD case against it and block out about 99% of the light (so I had some good uptime) unfortunately I could no longer do this with my Quicksilver, whose 'sleep' light is almost bright enough to reed by, and now I have the 'reflected glow' with the G5's tiny light.
GRRRR! the sleep lamp should have a software control.
