www.xlr8yourmac.com reckons that if I use the ROM file from a Ti Powerbook's System Folder in my iMac then it'll speed things up... I'm the kinda guy who is willing to experiment, so could someone please send me the ROM file from their Powerbook's System folder? Would b great, I'll post results in the iMac forum.

Interesting.

I read the report on Xlr8yourmac and I am very puzzled as to what would cause this. But nevertheless, I have a theory.

My theory, this is planned by Apple. They have done something in the ROMs for the G4s to make them work faster compared to G3 macs which use a different ROM file version. Why? To make sure that we all knew the G4 was faster, which would sell more G4s. It's extremely devious, but somehow, it just sounds like something Apple would try and pull to make sure their machines sold. But that makes you wonder, what was done with the ROMs to make the programs launch faster and the system feel snappier?

Yes, this is just a theory. In all likelyhood, this is incorrect. But 'ey, theories are all we have right now until Apple says something.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Will a G4 ROM work in another computer?

Yeah, I can see Apple doing that...

But it would make their other computers look worse... but anyway, lets assume its accurate.

Is the ROM file updated after a system update? If so, then it'd have to be selective about which ROM file to install... so perhaps several ROM files are in an updater TOME...?

Lets follow this up.
