Is there an online gaming service that allows both Mac and PC? I own a Mac and my brother owns a PC. We want to play one another online. Is that possible?

It might help us if you tell us what games you want to play
I know Medal of Honor, Halo and Call of Duty can all play Mac vs PC.

If that isn't possible how is the performance of modem to modem game play?

I'm not sure if Stronghold has crossplatform networking. I believe the PC developers used DirectPlay for their netcode so you won't be able to play against PC users with the Mac version. There aren't a lot of cross platform compatible strategy games. Blizzard games are compatible but not much else.
Here are the strategy games that should be crossplatform compatible over networks:
All Blizzard games
Masters of Orion 3
Myth I-III
Hmmm... that's about it.

America's Army is cross-platform... Just waiting for the newest version (2.2.1) to get released for Mac, though. Current Mac version is 2.1 - which also means good luck finding a server for Mac... Ugh.
