I have two 5400/180 all-in-one Macs, and one 5500/225 all-in-one. These are school computers, sort of the original iMacs. The 5400s have a measly 16 mb of memory. The 5500 has 32 mb. I want to use Photoshop and Pagemaker on them, but I need more memory.

Can anyone advise me on the type of chips I should buy?

Thanks.

Both machines take 5 volt 168-pin DIMMs. 168-pin is the same physical size as current SDRAM, PC100, PC133, etc. Those chips are older than these more available ones, so make sure it's the older kind. The 5400's can handle up to a 32MB chip in each slot, plus 8Mb soldered on the logic board, for a total of 72MB. The 5500 had no soldered RAM, but can take 2 64MB chips for a total of 128MB.

I think the 5400 can also take a 64MB chip in each slot for a total of 64x2=128+8=136MB RAM.

Paul,

Thanks very much for the advice. I was afraid they would max out at 64 mb. Now I just have to hunt down the old chips.

Regards

Anthony
