Have seen much about partitioning of HD, was wondering how you actually do it and do I have to reformat my HD

Yes, you'll have to reformat your HD. If you want to partition, back up first. Partitioning is an option from within your disk formatting software.

Boot from your system CD (insert the disc and hold C at startup).
Find "Drive Setup" in the Utilities folder.
Open it. There, in the menu's and whatnot, you'll find partition options.
You will lose all data.

I'm about to install a larger HD in my iMac, and was wondering if partioning is required and if so are there any guidelines to the size of the partions. I will be running OSX.1, and it's an 80GB drive. Thanks!

[Partitioning is up to the user, you decide if you need it......But if you do the OS should be installed in the first partition, and size should be no less than 8GB
