I have a really strange problem that has been intermitant.

When iCal loads, a second or so later, everything goes blank. The data is still there and when I restart the app, I briefly see the calendars, and then poof, they're gone. I figured that perhaps an event causing the problem and I revereted to an earlier database before the problem with the same result. I have attempted to clear the iCal caches and reinstall iCal by copying it from another machine, neither of which helped. Has anyone experienced this or know what might cause the problem? Thanks!

Create another user account. In that account, make some test events in iCal. Log out. Log back in. Does it do the same thing in that new account? If so, you might need to re-install the OS.

If not, then your main user account has a corrupt file somewhere in your user/library folder. Try the iCal prefs file first. (com.apple.ical.plist). Trash it and log out, then back in.

Good luck. Keep us posted. Have not seen this before.

Thanks for this message. I cleared the plist, and that didn't do it. What I did do however is make a DB backup and go to another machine and restore from it. That machine now does the same thing. As a result, it must be something related to the data itself, even though it stumps me that my old backups did the same thing. I think I'll try to export each database and then wipe everything related to ical from my computer. Then I'll reinstall iCal and import the DBs one by one. It might be hard to export them, since they vanish so quickly, but I bet I can pull it off in time after lots of tries. I'll let you know.

Any more thoughts?

Well, I'm fairly confused, but my problem seems to have gone away now. I deleted all files with iCal in it, including the app itself. I then deleted them and restarted the computer. I went to import m first calendar, and saw that all the calendars were back as before. I suppose it must have been one of those files, but I'm still not sure why the calendars are back. No matter, so far so good.
