I just received my iPod mini. I downloaded the software and connected the iPod to my firewire port.
I have 130 songs in my library but I got a message that said something like "the iTunes library is too large to upload all the songs to the iPod, iTunes will choose a selection of the songs to upload"
If the iPod mini can hold about 1000 songs why did it tell me the library was too large if it only had 130 songs? It only uploaded 91 of the 130 songs in the library. The iPod installer said I have 3.7gb of disc space on the iPod min which seems about right.i.

What format are the songs on your computer? (Check your settings in the Import section of the iTunes Preferences)
The 1000 songs is an estimate based on an average 4-minute song encoded as either a 128k MP3 or 128k AAC = 4MB x 1000 = 4GB.
If your songs are absurdly long or encoded as, say, AIFF (where 1 minute = approx. 10MB), you won't get as many songs on there. If they're really short or encoded as, say, 64k MP3 or AAC (where 1 minute = .5MB), you'll fit a lot more.

You must have encoded in AIFF...that seems like the only way you could max out ~4 gigs with only 97 songs.
