The "A" stands for asynchronous, meaning that the upload and download speeds are different. ADSL gives you fast download speeds and mediocre upload speeds. Virtually all consumer DSL packages are ADSL. ISPs don't want their customers hosting web sites without paying for a commercial connection.

so I am right to think there would be no problem using a Belkin F5D7230uk4 cable/DSL router for my ADSL connection

(I bought a belkin F5d7630uk4 which states ADSL modem router but does not support WDS so I will send this back and exchange for the above product if it is compatable ?)

ADSL vs. DSL should have no bearing on compatibility with a router. There's no real difference other than the ISP throttling up speed on ADSL. Either should work fine.
