... did anyone see the WWDC video?
He looks like an old man, bony, hollow cheeks - all of a sudden.
Larger parts than usual of the show have been done by others (Phil, Bertrand Serlet).
Whats going on?

Schiller sucks as compared to SJ. Doesn't have the "presence".

Also, I think Steve wanted to pave the way to take a less active role. Plus, he had little to `tinker' with since there were no/few demos (I have yet to watch the keynote beyond the first 20 minutes, I will try again tomorrow).

I'm glad i am not the only one who notice that. He's been getting worse since he beat the cancer. He looked much better on last year's WWDC. I wonder what's up with his health

I have to agree, Schiller packed on a few more. Maybe he should hit the Apple gym.

I'm starting to get worried his cancer is back. He really doesn't look well, and having all those VP's do a tag-team keynote sure seems really fishy. I guess we'll see.

I hope he is ok. It's the first thing I noticed. He does not look well at all. Maybe just stress from the Stock Back Date investigation?

I almost got the feeling that he was "handing over the ship" during the Keynote.

I think you're right...

He'd never openly say that something is wrong, and given what happened, I'd say something is wrong. But what do I know?

I think you guys are grasping at straws. Steve has many times shared the stage.

When Tiger was previewed, several other people came on stage to explain Automator, Core Image/Video, QuickTime 7, and the Unix-y stuff.

When I saw Steve, the first thing I thought was "beard" and "Ars Leopard bingo."

I also noticed he didn't say "boom," but instead said "zoom" during the Spaces demo.

The way I see it, Jobs is doing the best he can, and it's pretty damn good.

When he came back to the company 10 years ago, he was on fire. Remember how he would make bold, visionary statements about the future of computing? The digital hub idea was very prophetic when you look at how computers are used today. So was his bold assertion that the iPod would be a central part of peoples' lives (even though we all thought it would never succeed).

I get the impression that he's done all that he can do in terms of vision. Now he's getting practical, and laying the foundation for Apple to succeed after he's gone. From little things like two-button mice, to huge things like the Intel transition, he's setting the company up to be more conventional, so that Apple won't crash and burn when he leaves like last time.

There may not be as many "...one more thing"s in the future. We might get the iTunes movie store, an iPhone, and maybe something else. After that, Jobs may very well decide that he's done all he can do for Apple.

The last event he did wasn't good either. He was off and looking very skinny, that iPod HiFi thing I believe it was. He looked very skinny at the New York Cube store opening also. It's been a long while since he had that Cancer surgery. It doesn't look like he is on chemotherapy but there are all different types of treatments, even ones where you don't lose your hair so who knows. His cheeks were way more sunken today. And a lot of times you gain weight on chemo.

Maybe Shiller's just been stealing his jello?

I'm personally getting a little tired of seeing Jobs do these iLife and lower end consumer software demos. Jobs should just be called out to pull out the big gun announcements. The format for today's keynote was really well done. Some good speakers mixing it up.

Well, if Steve Jobs is going to retire soon they better start making a stevebot with his voiceover added for effect, otherwise I aint watching this kind of applestream ever!

Edit: Scott Forstall comes across really well though. Wouldn't mind him spend more time on the stage in the future. Although he should speed up some.

At the same time he helped shaped that prophecy.

In any case, near the beginning of the keynote he stumbled around a bit, but I guess everyone gets their tongue tied. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

Agreed that Steve Jobs does not look well. I'm worried. I know he is a vegetarian, but he is either sick or not eating enough for some reason, perhaps stress. He should take a long vacation, he health is critical for Apple.

I dunno. He kind of reminds me of a 50 year old man who just had a run in with cancer.

Or, maybe he's just sick and tired of listening to us, the Apple collective - otherwise know as whiny-pains-in-the-asses.

Stress is always possible but one has to wonder what could be causing stress? Worrying over Microsoft's Zune? Vista? Counting his Disney shares from the sale of Pixar?

He's been chubby in the past on his vegan diet so I doubt that's it.

I agree, the guy in the black bowling shirt did a great job. I could do without Shiller and that French guy... and please never ever ever let that Roz Ho or whatever her name is from Microsoft ever on stage again. I'd rather listen to Balmer!

I remember when I saw James Brown in concert 10+ years ago. They always choreographed it so he would either exit the stage for a few minutes or make it look like he was standing on the sideline letting the band do a solo. It was obvious that he was too old and tired to do the whole act.

That is what this keynote reminded me off as especially Steve doesn't like letting someone else take centre stage.

Hope steve is doing alright.

I predict Steve will step down after Leopard is released. Apple cannot be tied to the health of just one man, no matter how important or visionary he is.

And lay off Phil - that guy is a class entertainer !

Oh come on, that bit by Serlet was the most hilarious part of the whole keynote. The fact that he looks a bit crazy only makes it more entertaining.

Maybe the reason why didn't seem to have the usual Steve magic is because Apple didn't really have anything super exciting to release. I mean, new towers were very expected, and preview of 10.5 was great, but nothing that wowed the audience like usual.

Nah, think about it. If Jobs or someone else with a US accent gave that whole speech basically about "MS copied us!" it would look kind of childish and petulant. When Serlet did it, the French accent made it comedic gold. I was laughing my ass off, whereas if Steve had done it I would probably have been grumbling "yeah, yeah, get on with it."

I thought the new guy who did the Time Machine demo was pretty good too. I really don't see what you guys are complaining about - the feature set they showed was sort of underwhelming, but the presentation was great, IMO.

Serlet is fluent in English. You shouldn't mistake an accent (and French generally tend to have a very heavy accent) for a lack of proficiency.

You know, there has been increasing evidence that caloric reduction can increase you lifespan. Maybe Steve, after his recent cancer scare, is eating less in order to possibly extend his life.

Just a thought.
