Since my wife and I follow a girl by the name of Jennifer McCreight on Twitter and on her blog (Blag Hag), I thought it would be apropos to post one of her "causes" that has garnered the attention of CNN, Comedy Central and even an Irish news station, amongst others.

You'll just have to read up on her blog, my blog and on Twitter to get the gist of the entire event, suffice it to say that women all over the world are invited to attempt to cause an earthquake simply by wearing provocative clothing. This event is taking place on Monday, April 26th.

Jen's Twitter feed: @jennifurret
Mine: @thegeeksource
Jen's site: www.blaghag.com
Mine: www.thegeeksource.com

There's a backstory involving an Iranian Cleric, so it's a must read...

You're asking people to go through your Twitter feed and a blog to get some background on an event that is basically equivalent to the South coast of France for the summer ?

Are there pictures ?

It's not. There won't be any topless girls, it being America and all.

I agree.

And no, I'm sure most of the participants will be clothed. Scantily so, but clothed.

This had all the makings of being awesome.
Alas, it was not to be. I see no quake. No quiver. No shake.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

I think, if it does actually wind up being an actual gathering, that this should get LOTS of press. Not just for the boobage (a worthy goal in itself), but to rub some musty old clerics' noses in the fact that their ideas are not universal nor applicable to anyone other than (perhaps) themselves. In other words, calling their bluff would be very useful. "Oh yeah? Well let's just test your assertion!" No quake, but maybe some entirely human jiggle.

This is PRECISELY what the cool-factor is about this whole idea. An offhand joke by a blogger has spawned all sorts of media attention, and has basically challenged this cleric all in one fell-swoop.

Sanctimonious clerics deserved this long ago. But of course, Christian leaders tend to make apocalyptic denunciations after-the-fact, when the dead people are still freshly rotting, which is both easier and more disgusting.

Completely agree. I think this "boobquake" movement, if you will, is just a wonderfully comedic way to call those types out. But, I've heard that Jen is actually doing some scientific research related to quakes, and proceeds from t-shirt sales are going to the Red Cross amongst other charities...
