13 episode run:

1: Brad Pitt
2: Danny Pudi
3: Anthony Hopkins
4: Christopher Lee
5: Sean Connery
6: Wil Wheaton
7: Adam Buxton
8: James Earl Jones
9: David Duchovny
10: Stephen Fry
11: Daniel Radcliffe
12-13: Emma Watson
I would like to see an audition reel of these folks, that would be hilarious.

Doc, I missed a great deal of 6-7, although I do now have a vague recollection that Romana became president somewhere along the line. Hard to do from e-space. I guess... I have do more rewatching!

Yeah she became president of Gallifrey for a bit.

You can tell how well informed a site is by how fully it swallows the "next doctor to be a lady" line. Several sites were spewing guff about Helen Mirren being the favourite to be the new Doc because Matt Smith said she should be.

Actually I've changed my mind. If they are going to have a lady Doctor, it should be Emma Thompson. She'd be brilliant.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

At the very least, just add her to the wish list of guest stars.

Assuming Time Lords can't change gender, I hope it's Hurt. He'd make an awesome Doctor!

The new Doctor will be announced in a special programme on Sunday night at 7pm UK time on BBC One, I think it's also being shown at the same time on the American BBC channel.

2 p.m. on BBC America.
(Which is actually a 50/50 partnership between BBC Worldwide and Discovery, and shows a ton of non-BBC programming)

Yeah, all this hoopla is kind of off-putting, really. There's a real "jump the shark" odor about it all.
This special event Sunday seemed to come out of nowhere, like it's a last-minute thing. One might wonder if they're acting in haste to head-off someone threatening to spill the beans?

Interesting choice. I'm glad they didn't go the teenybopper route.

I think all this hoopla was to give this guy more cred, as he wasn't any of the top names being pushed/voted on/fanboi'd about.

I'd seen him being mentioned lots. I love him, be odd to see him in something where he's not swearing though....
He's also a great actor, I hope they come up with some deserving storylines.

Yes, this.
It would a terrible waste if they stuck him in the same, tired "always running and shouting" storylines. I'd really, really love to see a darker, mysterious Who, and less of the everyone-on-Earth-will-die-yet-again mania.

there needs to be more space in time and space. it's fun to see Big Ben get blown up or daleks swarming over New York, but at this point there can't be a square inch of the planet that some alien being hasn't been hiding/sleeping/storing bombs in.

Torchwood has heard you, and the premise of their next series is... everyone DOES NOT die. There is mania though. And grenade launchers.

It seems like BBC-A has shown Miracle Day before. I know I've seen it, but I've never had access to Starz.

doh. I don't think I ever saw it, or mention of it, before.

I blame the BBC, since their post is dated 8/13/2013, and they do not mention it's a rebroadcast! :grr:

They've released pix of the 50th anniversary... and John Hurt's outfit reminds me of the Paul McGann outfit that he wore to a con and wished his character had got to wear (instead of yet another velvet jacket foppery). Another quote on another site says that Hurt is a former regeneration. Who else could he be but 8 grown OLD, unless there's some sneaky hidden regeneration in there?

I enjoyed it too. I wish I hadn't watched the teasers. It felt short, I wonder if the dvd will be Extended. Loved seeing 10 again. Clara was hardly annoying.

I have a few quibbles, but like the general idea of the workaround solution they did.

I liked the fact that the Daleks were almost just the background. They ere there but it totally wasn't a dalek story. Really good. Found Tennant more irritating than I remember. Smith was as good as usual but Hurt gave them both a masterclass in acting...

So, Capaldi. Thoughts?

The stories seem weaker, retreads, but I think that's on purpose to allow Capaldi to grow into the character. Into the Dalek in particular had lots of deja vu, and not a little "didn't they see Innerspace? Don't they realize the Dalek has antibodies? No one planned that one through."

Capaldi's a bit hard to understand, his Scots accent at least, but I like the dry delivery of jokes. I'm glad they addressed the "no flirty" business.

I also like Clara a lot better when she's getting hit in the face with newspapers.

What do we think of Danny Pink? I suppose Clara has to flirt with someone?

You're showing your young age. When I heard that line, I immediately thought of Fantastic Voyage. I'm old.

I liked how, on the molecular level, the inside of a Dalek has flat floors, passages and easily removed access panels.

I like Capaldi just fine, though I, too, sometimes have trouble understanding him. I'm enjoying the relative lack of running down corridors and yelling.

I already dread wherever Moffat is going with this Missy character. I'm a bit tired of the "Big bad thing" arc he uses in each series to tie it all together.

My money, Missy is the Rani. I would love if that were so. But the "afterlife" bit doesn't seem to fit.

Interesting. I see the internets agree with you.

Also interesting, is that the garden of the afterlife is the same as in The Girl Who Waited. Simple reuse of sets, or intentional connection?

I've been a little underwhelmed by Capaldi so far. I've read the scripts, and The Doctor's madness is written into them, but Capaldi's delivery is so flat that I'm finding him to be a little dull and boring.

Needs more Wonka. Hopefully someone tells him to step it up a notch.

I dunno. I'm happy with the quiet of Capaldi's Doctor. I'm pretty burned-out on manic Doctors. If/when this Doctor does snap, it will be dramatically obvious and much more effective.

It's not mania I'm after. There's just a lack of glee in the reading of the scripts (so far), so a lot of clever writing is slipping under the radar. eg, from the first episode:

The Doctor races to the door, tears it open -

- hesitates -

THE DOCTOR
Door! Boring! Not me!

Slams the door, now races to the window, looks out.

He's on the top floor over-looking a giddy, three storey drop. There's a rickety looking drainpipe right next to him, leading up the roof.

Leaning out of the window he grins.

THE DOCTOR
Me!

You can read that as Tom Baker/Matt Smith/Christopher Ecclestone and it works. As it was performed by Capaldi, it was just lost. No timing. No delivery. It seems to be Peter Capaldi playing himself - not Doctor Who.
