Cheers

What program were you using?

I went ahead and added ClearDock since APE was upgraded for Tiger and it's working just fine. Transparent as a pane of glass.

I was using TransparentDock 2.2 when on Panther
- http://www.freerangemac.com/TransparentDock2.html

So if i get APE (whats that??) and then find ClearDock i should be able to have it transparent again.

Can you please tell me where to find them.

Dont worry about the question above as I am sure I have just found them

ClearDock
- http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/cleardock

APE
- http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/ape/

Do I install APE first then ClearDock??
Does it slow down the system at all??

Yes, APE first then clear dock. I've never experienced a slowdown and I run 4 or 5 APE modules at the same time.

Cleardock leaves a thin border around the Dock for me. Don't know why.

More importanlty, however, I far prefer to have the Dock application hacked to be clear rather than running an Ape module for this. If someone comes up with a new TransparentDock application, I'd be happy to use it!

Same here; however, the thing I hate about ClearDock (any version) is that when you hide an open application, the arrow beneath the open app goes completely away. That is wrong behavior and something that TransparentDock does not do.

I'll continue to use ClearDock until TransparentDock is Tiger-patible.

i use tinkertool with cleardock, so when my apps are hidden, they are also transparent. i don't really look at the arrows.

I too get that "ghost" dock with cleardock, is it possible that is because I use that with tinkertool? I'm not sure how they would relate. In panther I used a mix of transparentdock and cleardock. I hope they will work together again soon!

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast!

Nope, it's extremely difficult and you could easily hose something up within in the system trying to change it yourself via the Terminal.

Well first of all, it's not an APE. APE's are great, but not really necessary for this application.

There are far more options in TD than CD

In particular, the feature that I use, of changing the Triangle colors to transparent, in CD, opening apps still have a black one, whereas TD, it does it permanently.

I guess saying one is 'better' than the other is not necessary, it's just personal preference.

locking the icons in the dock (in TD) is a nice feature (wish osx had that as an option);
watch my friend's kids drag icons out & rearrange his dock...yikes!

meanwhile, i wish i could turn off notification, ie docks bouncing when they want me.
or had some choices, is flashing icons...anything but bouncing!

(used dock detox in 10.3, worked on some but not all apps)

dock detox for 10.4???

I lost count at about 13 different options/preferences that TD can do that CD cannot.

I am pretty sure you meant "meanwhile until TD is updated" but just in case you didn't know, that is an option in TD. That and changing the triangles to transparent were the two options I always used.

i thought cleardock was better simply because it was free...but i'll give TD a chance since the popular opinion is that it's better.

i only get the border with ClearDock if i have certain themes running in shapeshifter. not all though. Xi-Tibook2 (which should be updated for 10.4 in my opinion) doesnt, but Al Book (i think it is) does give me a border.

Had some troubles with it the first time. Had to reboot from the saved dock info but was able to get it going after that. So, make sure there's a backup.

Works just fine here with that option enabled...

Are you running TransparentDock v2.3.1?

ah, updating!
just went to 10.4.1....and transparent dock no longer works!!

tried trashing prefs, logging out/in...

no go.

edit: note that after installing 10.4.1, you'll get a warning that a dock app may not work.

anyway, cleardock is still good (as are shapeshifter & mighty mouse)...!
but since i paid for transparent dock, am looking forward to it again.

it's nuts, the endless updating. i have friends still in os9; they get their work done, and are happy (or happy enough).

but some of us (certainly those, like me, who spend too much time here at macnn),
have updat-itis.

we HAVE to do it NOW (and then bitch about the consequences).
