Some people wear their heart up on their sleeve.
I wear mine underneath my right pant leg,
strapped to my boot.

thanks for that, but i dont like using kaliedescope as it sometimes freezes and it is shareware so you get all the crap when you startup. do you know of any theme sites like that? do you know how i can make my own themes? and, also, is that sheme to theme thingy for download anywhere?

cheers,

diggin in the dirt huh? there are only a couple of good achives left

resexcellence is No.1
http://www.resexcellence.com/themes/index_10.shtml

Michael Rabe created many of them and this is his direct line
http://members.cox.net/instosoft/main.html

the old MacOSResources site is still up - but has only a couple more than Resex but they also have the sound files which are very fun and can be converted by Xounds
http://www.macosr.com/php/query/files/index.php3?cat=th

and then there is this one... yes it says schemes but this single page is all themes - you will have to opt-click the second column of question marks to get the archive - it has the original Drawing Board theme from Apple - I don't know where HiTech went but it is around too.
http://buryme34.tripod.com/schemes.html

have fun - I did
If you pick something like NeXT for OS9 and then run Swiz NeXT 2 for OSX you get a pretty seamless look although I prefer the Swiz update.

I LOVED OS 9 themes!

The theming ability of Kaleidoscope (almost) but stable, and didn't slow your system down.

I made a few OS 9 Platinum hacks.

I used to do Kal stuff back in the day. But by the time OS 8 was out, I really started appreciating Platinum.

I guess that is why I was happy to see one could modify the theme file already in OS X.

Well you HAVE dug deep into the earth at this question. First note: Be Really Careful when playing with the Finder in the System Folder.

You need a copy of ResEdit 2.1.3 [don't be fooled by imitations (There was no ResEdit 4.62r56 or anything silly like that)] and while your at it you may as well bookmark:
http://www.resexcellence.com

Make A Copy of your Finder [x2 - cause things happen] one is the original, the second is the working file. Open it in ResEdit, find the resource, make the change, save and replace this new and improved file in the System Folder... have fun but Be Careful, reloading the OS cause you got lazy is not fun.

that seems a bit drastic. if we're still talking about OS 9, all i ever had to do was make the picture i wanted at the correct resolution and save it in the System Folder as STARTUPSCREEN

thats all.

Hmm, perhaps I remembered incorrectly - maybe it needed to be in a format called PICT resource (or something like that - GraphicConverter can save to it). Pixel dimensions didn't matter, though, IIRC.

Look up IIRC (an others) here: http://www.acronymfinder.com/

On converting Kaleidoscope schemes to MacOS themes, some history is found here:

and here:

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly.

And MSN is still available for OS9. Just check MS's Mactopia website.
