i realize that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it but i was thinking of selling this and was hoping for some opinions of what it might be worth?

- G4 Power Mac Sawtooth
- OWC Mercury Extreme 1.5GHZ 2MB L3 Cache Processor (1 week old)
- 896MB SDRAM (3 PC133 and 1 PC100 sticks)
- HP DVD640 Dual Layer 16X DVD LightScribe Burner
- Linksys WMP54G Wireless G and 10/100 Ethernet as well as modem
- 128MB ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP video card
- 60GB (OS Installed) and 140GB (Storage) 7200 HDD's
- 2 X USB2 and 1 Firewire 400 Port(s) on the front (removed zip drive and added these) there is also the ability to add Audio In/Out and Serial to this area. see picture below.
- 3 x USB2, 2 X USB1, 2 X Firewire 400 Ports on the back
- Leopard, Toast, iWork, iLife (minus iMovie),

here is a picture of the front where i added some useful ports:

thanks

Mac2sell.net says it's worth $430, personally I don't think it's worth more than $300, it's just too old.

Sadly, the customization work probably doesn't help you sell as second hand: a CPU that Apple doesn't officially support, a DVD-writer in the same category. Ugly ass front-of-box USB and Firewire. As a hackintosh, you'll probably only be able to appeal to others who would want such a thing, and they'll not be willing to pay much for it at all. $200 would be -very- generous, IMHO.

Nobody would pay $450 for that machine.

I'd say $250 is all you can possibly get, especially with the front panel hack.

Why so quick to sell it right after the CPU upgrade?

I don't think you'll get more than $200 for it. I see the top end G4 Powermacs go for about $400-500 regularly, and we're talking the Dual 1.4GHZ MDD models.

I wouldn't pay $10 for that machine.

mods to a g4 are for personal pleasure and longevity of your own machine. you will never even get half the money back in an overall sale price.
if you are pinched for money, try parting it out on ebay.

i actually only have the processor money in it and that was a must have if this thing was going to do anything. the original 400mhz ran but not anything like it does now. i have to say i was very impressed on how well it runs on 10.5.4. i have been using it connected to my bedroom lcd as a media box and it plays/ streams from my NAS for movies etc...

i already had the rest of the stuff laying around and the machine was given to me so i was just having fun putting all the spare parts i had laying around into it

i appreciate the feedback.

Wow, that Mac2sell site is pretty far off... it says my dual 2.0 ghz G5 with 5.5 gigs of RAM is worth $510. These machines regularly still get 800-900 bucks on craigslist and eBay.

Too bad, it's a good idea for a site...

Its sort of like what is happening with car values right now. Small cars are selling for over kbb and suv's are selling for less than kbb. As Macs gain in popularity, some people don't want to fork over the money for a new one and would rather invest in a used Mac. This places a higher demand on the product, and the prices generally get a little high. Meanwhile, used PC prices are looow.
