Well the good news is that Red Faction for the Mac has gone gold and the MacOS 9 version will be shipping soon. The bad news is the MacOS X version is apparently having performance problems and will not be shipping with the MacOS 9 version.
Well... I'm not buying it until the MacOS X version is shipping.

Thanks,
I was tempted to order it. If it's not OSX ready, NO WAY am I going to spend 50 bucks on a game that runs on pre-historic OS's only.

Probably by the time you get the game, an X patch will be ready.

Pretty crummy eh? Why couldn't they wait another week and do it right? It's not like Christmas is tomorrow or anything. I'm waiting too.

Thanks for letting me know. I plan to pre-order it but after I hear about the news of MacOS X, I dropped it. They have to learn that porting and developing everything to MacOS X is the best way.

If you can't get the game going at more than 5 fps in OSX, why ship with it? it's better to patch it later than to wait 2 weeks.

I know, I know, I'm just a rabid fan.

Well, that's all well and good, but will there actually be a SHIPPING version of the carbonized game, or will it be a patch like so many other pre-OS X games? In that case, you might as well buy it. Hell, at this point, it'll probably be quicker in OS 9
(BTW, the reason they didn't ship it w/OS X support is that OS X had some "significant speed issues," according to IMG)

Yeah Katarn717, it'll probably be a patch.
It's just that I'm trying to stay in MacOS X these days and get used to the new system. Can't do that if I keep going back to MacOS 9.x to play UT, and now Red Faction (if I bought it). Besides, Red Faction was advertised as MacOS X compatible. Ho well, I can always keep on playing Giants until I get to the end of it...

I've played the PC version and wasn't impressed at all. The graphics were good, and the weapons were fun since they all had two firing modes. However the game itself didn't really draw me in.
Also there were little things that I found annoying such as after you clear out a room of baddies, and go in to the next...trip an alarm..then more baddies pour out behind you. Where they came from who knows?
Multiplayer was fun, although not all walls are destructable, so you could be tunnling along and then be stopped solid by a wall that is supposedly indestructable. Not very realistic.
All in all, if you pick it up cheap at your local gaming store, or on eBay..by all means I recommend it. However I don't think the work that GraphSim has been doing on their games is all that good, plus the game itself isn't that fantastic so I don't recommend running out and buying it.
