Positives? Negatives? Other non-Apple alternatives?
Thanks... Bill

I have a Samsung 172T (DVI). Is that close enough?

I've personally been very happy with my Dell 2001FP. It's huge and well worth the price. They run specials all the time.

I have the 172x connected to my G5. It's an awesome monitor. I have not had one problem with it.

OK! Thank you for the 172T and Dell comments. But I really like the style and compact fold-up ability of the 172x. So with cjhrph's recommendation (and a few others), I just placed my order. Soon there will be at least two of us with the 172x.

I've been eyeing this monitor for awhile. Very nice. 12ms pixel response? Yummy. And it looks greatquite Apple-ish.

Floor'duh? Don't get blown away by the 'Canes!
'Will report my experiences/impressions of the 172x... from a Mac user's standpoint, of course.

I'm keeping an eye out. Nothing too bad yet here in Miami. Few squalls, some 30MPH gusts, but that's about it. I expect it'll pick up not too long from nowhopefully the power lasts longer this time.
Looking forward to the review! May I ask where you got it from?

Ordered from www.techonweb.com, $490 including shipping... not the absolutely lowest price but they advertise "Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed." I called first and asked about their "dead pixel policy." The lady said they really don't have one, but if the monitor was too bad they would simply replace it.

I ordered my display a couple days ago. It's a Dell 2001fp, paid $731.30 for it including taxes and shipping. Sometimes when you splurge for a system, you need to make some slight compromises to the peripherals you hook into it. This is one of the higher rated LCDs though. For my 2GHz G5 system, putting a $1299 20" Apple Cinema display seemed a bit excessive. It's all relative they say..
Now, the G5 probably won't arrive until October 10th (ship on or before 10/6, and I got the free ground shipping)

Yes, please let us know. It's a great price for what looks like to be a great monitor.
Cheers.
