Is there a way to make Internet Sharing not broadcast the SSID of the newly-created wireless network?

What type of router are you using. I have a linksys wrt54g and in its web based configuration there is an option just for that. It's in the Wireless -> Basic wireless setings the fourth one down, the radio button. I don't know of any way to do this in the prefpanes, but the airport setup utility must have a similar option somewhere although I am not familiar with that software.

I'm using the Airport card in my G5 to act as a base station. As far as I can tell, the settings under System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing don't allow the SSID to not broadcast.

I don't have an airport card in my desktop to try this but in the utilities folder is an app called Airport Admin Utility. All of the options are grayed out for me, but if the option exists I would think its there. Good luck.

I don't think it's possible to tell your G5 not to broadcast the SSID. Internet sharing is a simple solution. If you need more features you must get a full-featured base station.
