Ever since installing 10.5.7 my pre-unibody MBP has started missing keystrokes again. Bad memories... Eww.

Has anybody else noticed this?

For me, the problem has never gone away.

It's frustrating. I know things are usually more complicated when you look at details...

But seriously, how hard can it be to build a frickin KB that works?

I'm wondering if installing the keyboard update once more would help?

How? It won't install if it's already installed.

The release notes don't mention anything.

So did anyone notice any improvement with 10.5.8?

I just sold off my older MBP that had this problem, and now got a 13" MBP, so I couldn't test it myself. It doesn't miss keystrokes like the old one did, but sometimes if you press a key off center, it doesn't register. I guess it will take some time to adjust to the new flat keyboard.

Well I can confirm that the issue is still around with 10.5.8. It's no better at all actually.

Sorry to hear that--"hope eternal" dies once again...

My MBP never qualified for the keyboard update, so never had to install in. I even checked the Library/Receipts folder to see if the pkg-receipt was in there.

Meanwhile, is the MBP still under applecare? What does Apple say?

There were 2 downloads, one was a firmware update which somehow calls for 10.5.2 and which was released on 2/19/08 and which supposedly puts a file in the Utilities folder called "Built-in Keyboard Firmware Update." Have you got that file in your Utilites folder?
About the MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0

Then, there's the MBP Software Update 1.1 which was released on 12/17/07 which required 10.5.1 and was supposed to correct a "temporary suspension of keyboard input." Seems like it should have been incorporated into later combo updaters, but who knows?

MacBook, MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1

PS: I'm sure you've already been thru all of the above, I was checking it all mostly for my own benefit, since I vaguely remembered downloading the firmware updater directly and trying to apply it--that's when it said it didn't apply to my model MBP. Which is a real problem when the read-me's state that it applies to 15" MBPs and--voilà!--it doesn't!

I'm starting to wonder if it's hardware. I couldn't get AHT to give me any errors, but I have noticed these console entries hen it happens.

My MBP has this problem, and the problem where the entire keyboard and trackpad will become unresponsive. Sleeping the machine will fix it for 10 minutes a, restart fixes it for weeks/a month or two.

And you see the same kernel messages in your system.log?

A reboot won't fix things for days let alone weeks here.

I didn't see them on a quick glance, but I'll check later.

I should have been more clear in my post, sleeping or restarting fixes the keyboard/trackpad unresponsive issue. Missing keys seem to come and go.
