Happy Easter All,
I was wondering if most apple stores sold out of ipads yesterday or do they have a steady supply. Just wanted to see how large the demand was and if it will be a problem to get one by walking in without waiting in the insane lines.
Regards,
Force

They should have a fairly steady supply. At this point it doesn't sound like they've run out. It seems as though Apple was very well prepared. Of course you could always call ahead to make sure as well.

Thanks Mitchel,
I have one on order online but it wont ship for over 1 week. I think the Best Buy by me sold out, however I am sure Apple Storea have many more.
I have heard of people who were at the apple store that could have bought one but walked out.
Thanks again,
Force

Your local Apple Authorized Value-Added Reseller may be your best bet. I got mine Saturday, April 3rd, not having previously preordered, by following these steps: - Went to my local VAR at 8:30am;
- Was fourth guy in line;
- UPS hadn't come yet but the manager was nice enough to take our paid orders with the promise to call when they came in;
- Left store at 9:30am with paid receipt in hand for a 32GB iPad;
- Enjoyed my day with my family instead of in line with a bunch of nerds;
- Got a call at 1pm that my iPad was in via UPS;
- Had it in my hands at 1:30pm;
- Many folks that had waited all night at the Apple Store or Best Buy were mighty jealous.
- YMMV

Wow.
I went to my local best buy at 9am and there were 10 people in line.
Got mot mine and was out by 10:15am because they did not get any side items.
I am pretty sure they were going to sell out of the the 20 of each model they got by 11 or so.

Same here.
A friend that went to New York just went in to the Apple store and got one for me in 10mins.
That was later in the afternoon. Not early in the morning but still.
Walked in walked out.
I feel bad for all the people that pre-ordered and they won't get their iPad for a week or so.
They should have covered all the pre-orders and then the stores etc.

They would have had a ton of negative press if they had no iPads for sale on the first day other than pre-orders.

I stood in line on Saturday morning for about an hour. There was one line for those who had a Reservation, and one line for those who didn't. And I can tell you if they had run out of stock for those that didn't Reserve, there would've been a riot, complete with pitchforks and torches. Luckily they seemed to have plenty, at least when I left the store they had plenty. I think Apple's strategy for the Reservations/Pre-orders was so that they could have a semi-accurate idea of what sort of stocks needed to go to certain locations. Seems to have went pretty well. Not sure about those who have to wait though. That sucks.

Supposedly, when an Apple store runs out they get replenished the next day. When a Best Buy runs out it takes 5 days for new iPads to come in.

I went by an Apple store this morning and they were out, you have to go on a waiting list for the next shipment. I will just get a 3G

No, they come in with the store's regular shipments.
