Comic-Con trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akX3Is3qBpw

This has sent it right up on the want list for me, before, it was somewhere between "Really?" and "Please don't be shit".

Not much story in the trailer, but the film is basically supposed to be one big chase scene. And it looks great, like a proper Mad Max film, not a CGI fest. People are really doing the stunts, cars and trucks are really getting trashed.

Did I say it looks great?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Plus, Tom Hardy is probably one of the best actors around at the moment.

I'm on board.

The Road Warrior is one of my favorite movies of all time. I generally hate reboots and remakes with the fiery intensity of a thousand suns, but for some reason, probably because it's George Miller, I'm looking forward to this one.

I don't believe it is a reboot. Fury Road (MM 4) was supposed to star Mel Gibson, but lost interest after it was taking to long to get going.

I think it morphed into a reboot of sorts. I don't know that it's really all that important how it gets classified. All of the stories more or less work on their own. There isn't much continuity to worry about.

I heard that it is supposed to be the same Mad Max, but it's not really important where it falls in the time line. It's just another story about Max.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Works for me.

Max looks like he should start taking a leak in that opening shot.

That opening shot would be an awesome car insurance commercial for any company not named Geico.

Looks like fun though, true to the original spirit. Don't mind the new guy, aside from Mel's current persona non gratis, I'd be surprised if a Mel Gibson-aged Max would still be alive in that universe.

I did read that this was supposed to take place in the timeline right after the original, so... reboot? without the origin story? or part 4? Hmm.

I just saw Mad Max again, and had forgotten how totally gay it was.

I don't mean that as a pejorative. I mean it as shirtless dudes with eyeliner doing the puffy chest gay.

I agree. It's kinda silly.

It's not like TRW isn't silly, but it's so well focused through the "creepy" lens, it works.

They're very different in so many ways. It almost feels like they take place in completely different universes.

The Road Warrior feels like it should be 50 years after the events of the first movie.

Mad Max is actually quite slow and poorly paced. The second movie is laser focused and has incredible pacing.

I never noticed how much that movie borrows from Hokuto No Ken. The bad guys are lifted straight from it.

I'm tempted to watch it, but I do enjoy the post-TV experience of getting to watch a movie and have it be a surprise.

I'm going to Interstellar tomorrow, and I know almost nothing about it beyond the cast, and it has dust.

The only thing saving me from that is my take on Inception was "just okay", so I'm assuming everyone is full of it on this one.

Yeah, German accent is 99% of the time a baddie. The southern-English accent (BBC newsreader up until the 21st Century for example) can be taken as pretentious. However, anyone that hears a Brummie, Scouser, Yorkshire or Lancashire and links it to pretentious really needs their ears cleaned.

You can use a capital E for English and a capital B for British Dakar.

True, but the more rough ones don't get used in American TV & Film as often. We think of Monty Python or James Bond.

I'd spoiler tag this, but it's minor.

Something which really pissed me off about Interstellar is their space Skype was wavy.

No, no, no. Space Skype will be blocky. Wavy is a bad analog signal.

The setup they had won't even be blocky. It's not real-time, latency is irrelevant, use robust error correction.

Yes. This is the kind of thing which will wreck a movie for me. I can be a tough crowd.

I saw it. Was pretty underwhelmed to be honest. May also be the last time I see a movie in a theater. We arrived 10 minutes late and still sat through 30 minutes of previews.

I saw it last night and really, really liked it. I was thoroughly entertained throughout. I don't think there were any holes in the story/plot (not saying it was particularly special) but those can knock a movie down a few notches for me.
