Each of us will answer a question like this in the terms that confirm our biases and preferences, terms that reflect choices we've made about the sources of meaning that we trust. Agree or disagree with each other, one thing is clear: the plain fact of individuality.

The meaning of YOUR life as opposed to mine as opposed to each and every other person's on the planet. Even where we agree and use similar terms, we will each express ourselves in action distinctly. But so many people pretend that public policies can and should be based on treating individual humans collectively, as groups, in spite of individuality.

Is it ever morally permissible (just) for a person to initiate force or aggress against another person for any reason? Would it be any more morally permissible if a majority of people agree to initiate force? Is peace possible if people are regularly being used as means to ends without their consent?

One of the core, passionate interests of my life that gives me joy and purpose, is understanding the multifaceted relationship between individual liberty, justice, peace, and reason.

Are you f**king joking?

Here's one of the top of my head:

Sorry to burst your little gay Christian bubble, but there've been heaps of whaked penis-eating corpse-f**king Satan-worshipping gays.

Untrue. I think spirituality, friendship, community, progress, making a difference, etc all are important aspects of life....but ultimately, it's all about enjoying yourself. If you didn't ever enjoy yourself while doing any of these things, you'd lose the will to live. When I do make a difference in someone's life, I feel happy. When I do any of these things, I feel happy. When I'm happy I have fun.

More female serial killers:

BW-Waneta Hoyt (1965-1971) killed 5 of her 6 children in Oswego, New York by suffocation, claiming they had just stopped breathing. The case came on the advent and discovery of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and one of her children became the first in the nation to be placed on a special monitor at home. The child died anyway, and Waneta said the machine malfunctioned. The trial became a test case on the medical validity of SIDS. The syndrome was determined valid, and Waneta was found innocent. In 1994, however, she confessed to the killings, but later recanted in 1995. A trial in 1995 convicted her to life in prison.

BW-Margie Velma Barfield (1969-1978) a 53-year old grandmother, killed 7 husbands, fiances, and her own mother in Lumberton, North Carolina. She burned some victims to death while they slept (made to look like smoking in bed), arranged prescription drug overdoses for others, and resorted to arsenic made to look like gastroenteritis for others. She was executed by lethal injection in 1984, the first woman to be executed in the U.S. since 1976.

BW-Blanche Taylor Moore (1966-1989) killed 2 husbands, one or more lovers, a pastor, her father and mother-in-law in Burlington, North Carolina by arsenic poisoning made to look like severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Her husbands and men she had affairs with reminded her of her abusive father, whom she also killed in a family reconciliation meeting. She won a $250,000 sexual harassment suit against Krogers while at the same time she was poisoning a coworker-lover there. Bodies had to be exhumed for evidence, and she was convicted to die by lethal injection in 1991.

BW-Diana Lumbrera (1977-1990) systematically suffocated 6 of her own children in Fort Worth, Texas. She would consistently rush each child (already dead) to the hospital, saying they had stopped breathing, and then blame medical staff for not resuscitating the child. The case prompted a nationwide concern for the problem of "crib death", but hospital officials eventually became suspicious, and she was tried and convicted, receiving three life sentences.

AD-Genene Jones (1978-1982) a 27-year old vocational nurse who loved to work with terminally ill children, was convicted to life imprisonment in San Antonio, Texas for 11 murders in 1984. Because she was mobile, moving around Texas to work in different clinics, authorities expect she may be responsible for as many as 46 deaths. Her pattern involved injecting heart medication (digoxin) into ailing infants in order to gain recognition as a heroine when she was able to miraculously bring them back from the brink of death, or more commonly, appear as a heroine by taking extraordinary measures to resuscitate the doomed infant. She brazenly continued her pattern even while she was under a CDC investigation, and her medical supervisors defended her. When she lost the 1984 trial, hospital officials throughout Texas shredded records of her employment and activities, preventing further trials and embarrassment.

RE-Martha Ann Johnson (1977-1982) was a 22-year old, 250-pound woman in Georgia with 4 young children who, after every argument with her husband, would roll her weight onto one of the children while they slept and suffocate them. She claimed they died of SIDS. She went unprosecuted until 1989 when an Atlanta investigative reporter dug up a medical report on one of the children which labeled the death suspicious. A 1990 trial and subsequent confession resulted in her receiving the death penalty.

OK, I get it. I was just wondering I'd never heard of any, then again I don't pay much attention to serial killers.

Anyway as to Doofy's assertion that I'd be one, I believe typically if you look back at a serial killer's child hood you'll find cruelty to animals, bed wetting, and a joy of fire. I've never been known to be cruel to animals, only wet the bed till the normal age when kids stop, and never had a big thing for fire.

Gay Serial Killers:

Gay Serial Killers, Part 1

William Bonin
Known as the "Freeway Killer" convicted of murdering 14 boys and young men, but suspected in the murder of 30. "He was impassioned about what he did. He loved it," said L.A. prosecutor. "Listening to his confession was like sitting in a room of horrors. Here we are talking about killing kids and throwing them out like pieces of trash, and then going back to get another. It made me sick." Bonin played the appeals game cleverly for 17 years, using the justice system to his advantage.

Randy Kraft
After arresting him for drunk driving, the cop saw a man slumped in the passengers seat, partially covered by a jacket. He tried in vain to rouse Krafts passenger. The man was barefoot, with his pants unzipped and genitals exposed. He had no pulse and his neck was ringed with red marks, as if he had been strangled. Prosperous data processing consultant preyed upon teenage boys, leaving them dead and mutilated. Convicted of 16 murders, the true count may be closer to 67.

Robert Berdella
An art student turns into a sadistic Jeffrey-Dahmer-like murderer of young men, known as the Butcher of Kansas City. This interactive forensics story goes into the psychology of a psychopath.

John Wayne Gacy
One of the most notorious serial killers, "respectable" Chicago-area businessman hires young men to work in his contracting company, then rapes and murders scores of them, burying their bodies on his properties. In prison, he became the focus of researching the psychopathic mind.

WTF is a "she-bear" (I hope it's not what I think it is)? I thought I kept up with all of this stuff…

True... but honestly Salty, I think you're going to need to find some solution to your sexuality. Feeling guilty about it, repressing it, all that will only lead to major problems in your life later. I mean... look at the church.. the whole preacher fiasco... all because these dudes were denied sex, so they ended up molesting little kids. Sex is natural. ANY kind of sex is natural, in my opinion, as long as it doesn't hurt someone. Homosexuality is natural, it's just less common. You shouldn't feel guilty about it and refuse to satisfy your own desires. It's just not right man.

If there IS a god, which I don't think there is (though I do think there is something special, just not a dude with a beard who cognatively decides things), I'm sure he wants you to be happy, and fulfilled... not pent up, frustrated, and repressed.

What should we call it? Ego-Christian? Hmmm. Maybe.

You might wanna go look up some passage or other in The Bible about fat blokes worshipping loudly sometime.

He didn't ask for bears, that's my point. The actual translation is he "chastized them in the name YHWH", the KJV is pitiful in regards to accuracy. Wanna tussle over it?

EDIT: and you don't recognize the implied meaning of the verse, instead you jump to the literal interpretation. Stay in the shallow end of the Theological pool Ca$h.

I did enjoy it, and she's quite persuasive in her assertions. However, like many others, she relies on many assumptions, especially regarding the feelings and motivations which changed a small tribal religion (later to be called Judaism), and the seperation of the Orthodox Christian sects.

Ms. Armstrong really doesn't break any new ground, but mostly just compiles known sources together into an, oftentimes, caustic diatribe. Further, her agnostic views are very evident, and her motivations are obvious. She has a bone to pick, and seems to be more focused on that than the actual subject at hand.

I like solving the world's problems, one at a time. I'm only as far as replacing my carpet with wood floors, but that's more than some of you have ever done.

I also like to burn things.

Ha! Whenever I make a joke about someone my wife tells me to watch out or I'll get eaten by a she bear. It was something adults would tell her when she misbehaved as a child but "she bear" is just funny sounding to me.

As to what gets me going every day? My son crying over the baby monitor to let me know he's awake. I never thought that I'd like that but it's a great thing to wake up to.

My babies all sleep with me and they have rarely cried. But, I always breastfeed them and they're always very happy.

I know, I know, all of the armchair pseudo-parents (and maybe a couple of real ones) will now pile on and warn me about the dangers of sleeping with infants.

But, I use a little cloth mat with 6-inch rolled edges that keeps the baby slightly separated from my body.

And that's just the famous ones.

Sounds good. What's it pay?

Very Christian. See? Every time you open your mouth you prove what I've been saying all along.

What should we call it? Ego-Christian? Hmmm. Maybe.

You might wanna go look up some passage or other in The Bible about fat blokes worshipping loudly sometime.
You know... you are the most bitchy straight man I've ever met. I think you might even be on par with my first room mate.

Oh and for the record, the sister comment. Nice one jackass, you try living with a psychologically disturbed person like my sister, and see how you handle angry fits of rage.
