Ok,

Just wondering if some found better deals than others out there (or apple reps offered better deals).

This is what I got.

1ghz
1gig memory
Combo drive
Apple care plan
Apple works

My grand total *WITH* tax was 3,073.00

I just couldn't wait 3-4 weeks, and I like the fact the combo drive has a faster DVD player (8x vs 6x on superdrive). I just wouldn't ever burn a DVD. If I really need one later I can use the firewire.

Ok, lets post the totals!

hmmm...I paid $3,734.67

1GHz/Superdrive/1GB RAM (double your RAM deal)/60GB HD/applecare/.mac/+ NY tax and $20 2nd day shipping.

I'm getting the feeling that I probably paid the most (NY tax). I wish I was still a student to get those great student ADC discounts.

Oh well...

Tax in certain parts of California is pretty bad too at 8.5%. The tax itself can nearly fund an iPod.

I paid a just over $2500 for the 867MHz w/ 512MB RAM / 40GB that I'm typing this on right now...

I'm not a student, nor am I eligable for any discounts other than the RAM promo, but all I can say is: "Damn."

Warning.... an attempt to justify this to myself follows:

I wanted it NOW, I'm not a starving college student, I can write it off on my taxes for employment purposes, I'll sell it when the new models w/ the IBM CPUs come out anyway, I got $1800 out of my Dell to put towards the bill for this one, I wanted it NOW, and I wanted it NOW.

Bahh.

Regardless of the monitary anal raping that the Apple store gave me free of charge, I LOVE this computer. This is my first Mac, and so far, it has done exactly what I wanted it to do... Full (although so far, it's a little funky for me, being someone who is only used to Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris) UNIX core with a great GUI, and all the hardware and software support I could ever really need.

If you've been wanting one GO GET IT!!! :-)

You make me want to puke! Anyway, how are you an employee of Apple at 15? I am assuming you got it under your dad's name.

Well I got an education discount because my wife is a teacher. Apple is kind enough to give that discount to you, if anyone in the house is. That took off about 242 dollars. I also got 50 dollars taken off the APP since I bought it on the spot.

Appleworks? Yeah I didn't ask for it. I was trying to get even more off, and they threw that in to shut me up.

From ADC:

PowerBook 1GHz Z07C 3-4 weeks $2,639.00
60GB Ultra ATA drive 065-3932
1GB SDRAM - 2 DIMMs 065-4035
SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW) 065-3937
Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English 065-3929
1GHz PowerPC G4 065-3935
AirPort Card 065-3928
Promotion Savings -$260.00

Subtotal $2,379.00

It's cheaper to get it with 1GB RAM than it is to get it with 512MB RAM by $20.

Standard 1GHz SuperDrive model: $2399
+ 1GB RAM Upgrade: $240
- RAM Discount Promotion: $260

= $2379

I got mine for $2588.36 ($2379 + $209.36 CO Tax).

App is the Applecare or Apple Protection Plan retails for $349. Not sure about getting a extended warranty but I have been told that for a Powerbook this is money well spent.

As far as I know its 15%. Not bad you really only save about 7% because of tax but that is still better then any retailer out there including the no tax online mac resellers.

Yeah, I think developers only pay $2399 for the gigahertz TiBook. It's the tax that gets to me. I wish California would have one of those "tax-free" days for computer purchases like Virginia or Pennsylvania did last year.

So far, for the common user, I have my total price down to $2659. That's for the gigahertz superdrive model with 512mb I think this is pretty much the same as the employee discount with tax. Hmm...my thoughts are to either buy this Titanium or wait for the next PB which I think will be a new form factor.

We have 16% sales tax (called MwSt. here in Germany), so don't even start to ask what I paid

3700 EUR at the German Apple Store, 1 Gig RAM though.

I ordered the SuperDrive version and hope to have it here soon (plus AppleCare, Airport Base Station, Kensington Saddlebag and lots of other stuff including the Nikon Coolpix 2500 as a Christmas gift for my father)

I would have paid $2100 for the superdrive model, no applecare. Apple's employee purchase is 25% off. And FYI for anyone asking....I doubt any employee would let somebody just use their discount, as we only get one system perchase per year.
Am I still here?

My 1GHz superdrive with 1GB or RAM came in at $3,050.33 including $231.33 CA sales tax and $15 shipping. This price was the Apple Friends and Family discount - no double the RAM promotion but I'm happy since it saved me $300 total. With the end of year tax deduction I'll save $1000 off taxes with the capital purchase making the cost roughly $2000 (which is what I sold my 800Mhz PB for).

I was offered the $2249 once a year Employee discount. Unfortunately that requires the Employee to purchase it under their name. I need the paper trail in my name for my business.
