Now I have read a lot of complaints on stacks and such. I myself don't really have too much of a problem . The only issue I see is that stacks show what was placed last into the folder. I would just like to see an "Applications" Folder, or "Downloads" Folder, etc.

Well if you're feeling the same way as I do, I have found a cool article. It doesn't necessarily change the way stacks show on the dock, but more or less places the whole stack in a cool bin.

I have yet to try this, but I am going to as soon as I get time. I just wanted to share the article with you guys who are feeling the same way about stacks.

In this code for the Terminal, I get the 20200101, but what is the 0101.01? Are those hours, minutes and seconds?

Anybody successfully change their stacks yet? I have been doing homework all weekend. I'm hoping to get a chance at this Tuesday.

Even though I've used terminal quite a bit in Linux, it still makes me a little nervous putting in commands that I don't know, so I know how you feel. I have had some pretty terrible experiences lol.

but the idea looks very Apple don't you think? It's something so cool that I don't know why Apple doesn't come with it first... it's like finishing the stacks feature... I'm desperate to add this hack on my new iMac!

Is there any way to 'touch' the files to modify the "date added" date? The whole thing that makes stacks useful for downloads (for me) is that it puts the last download at the top. Simply changing to 'date modified' doesn't always do that because different files you download have different modification dates.

Saw this yesterday at DaringFireball. It's a clever solution.

I didn't both with the "touch" stuff. I just named them + and threw each into the relevant stack.

nice idea, overall.
i named my folders with a space, so no text.
still, adds an extra folder to each stack...

hope apple gets stacks together soon...

The easiest way to implement these is to place the icon in the folder you use in your dock and rename the icon file "0.app". Thats a zero. it will always be the front of your stacks. Be sure to sort by "name".

Or put a space before the name. That works better than 0 I think. The space will always come before 0.

Is it brand new or did someone already installed it and sold it? It's not like Apple knows if it has the OS is already installed on one machine because you don't have to register to complete the installation of the OS.

And I love these icons. They actually make sense! I hope Apple steals them soon.
