any of you runners going to purchase this? i for one don't know why it wouldnt work with any ipod but apple says it wont so that i will have to assume is correct.

It probably could work with any dock connector iPod but only the nano fits in the shoes. A 30 or 60 GB iPod wouldn't fit well under your feet while running, nor would the hard drive like all that abuse.
I would like one.. I'm surprised the hardware thing isn't more expensive. Too bad I have to get a new pair of Nikes, though... I'm a little more partial to New Balances for running.

A sensor goes on/in the shoe, not the ipod. I'm wondering if you can rig up the sensor on "any" pair of sneakers, as runners are particular to shoe type and like to stick with what they know.

It seems like this might be possible but you'd have to carve up the shoe to get it to fit. The sensor goes in a carved out area of the shoe underneath a padded sole. If you carve up your asics or new balances, I doubt they'd feel like asics or new balances anymore.
