Well, I'm almost done with my xmas shopping... thanks to outpost.com, amazon.com, rei-outlet.com, and drugstore.com.... (hey, they've got lots of free goodies with a purchase... check em out!)

Now to wrap it all!

What's your fave holiday song to play while wrapping presents? Which artist?

I'm going to start with Bing, of course.

p.s. how can I get a santa smilie?

Quite a few years ago, I taped about every Xmas cartoon that was aired that year. So my favorite thing to do to get into the spirit and while wrapping presents is to have Xmas cartoon marathon. Lots o' laughs and warm-fuzzy feelings

Christmas has always depressed me.
Years ago, I got dumped by a girl I was crazy about as I was about to give her a diamond engagement ring as a Christmas present. I was crushed. Just hearing Jingle Bells always takes me back to that. (Therapy anyone?)
Now with all the commercialism, all the ostentatious decor and hoopla. It just gives me the blues. I'm in advertising and that doesn't help. I see the absolute worst of it up close and personal and by Thanksgiving when the last of the "MARATHON X-MAS SALE-A-BRATION!!" ads are all done, I'm pretty well burned out.

At some point I'll put on the Eagle's 'Please come home for Christmas", Lennon's "So this is Christmas" and Elvis - "Blue Christmas" build me a couple of really good stiff eggnogs and reread Matthew and Luke to remember that the whole meaning of the holiday is to celebrate the birth of Christ.

Then I'm fine.

Given my bachlerhood and the lack of family, I haven't been in the "Christmas mood" for a few years. I do enjoy listening to the Christmas songs that punk rock/ska bands come up with. They're usually filled with satire and are far more amusing (and pleasing to my ear), although not quite as wholesome...

Given that my baby is now four days overdue, it's tough to get into the christmas spirit this year; too many other worries. Mind you, the foot of snow that fell yesterday may have helped.

Anyone have suggestions on how to hurry along a baby delivery? Where's the stork when I need him?

Anyway, it seems to me that the christmas hoopla begins earlier each year. By the 2nd week of December I'm thoroughly tired of it all. I suppose my christmas blues go back to when I was a teen; my girlfriend and her family would go visit her grandparents out of town for three weeks, leaving me to learn all those bluesy hurtin' xmas songs. Jholmes, I may join you in those therapy sessions.

Andi, I searched far and wide for your santa smilie; no luck so far.

i'd say nothing works better to hurry a baby along than a nervous father!

If you're looking to annoy someone this Christmas, pick up a cd called "Jingle Cats." This could simply be the most annoying music on the planet. If you're in retail, it's good for clearing out your store at closing time.

As far as Christmas albums go, James Brown gets my vote. Heeeyyyyyy!

actually, they say sex hurries the baby along...

seriously.

To those of you who are already sick of Christmas, you need to buy a set of my "Seasonal Misalignment" headphones. Just put them on around Midnovember, and they will filter out all the hokey-too early-why oh why-bad advertising you may hear. Comes with free "Autoclicker" a device you add to your remote that automatically changes the tv channel when a Christmas commercial comes on before December 10. Optional feature of extending the date to perpetuity if you're Jewish.

Note: They don't work if you are in advertising yourself. It also helps not to go in any stores except Halloween party stores and grocery stores from October 20 to December 5th.

I like the christmas stuff, just not before December 1st, at the very earliest...

jholmes: I once broke up with a guy a couple weeks before Christmas... we said we'd be friends, so I invited him to my christmas party... at the Christmas party he was hitting on my best friend... By new years they were an item...

My favorite Christmas album is and what I usually wrap presents to (plus a nice bottle of port), A Christmas Gift for You From Phil Spector

More modern than the Perry Como, Percy Faith, Ray Conniff Singers, my parents listened to, yet still got some soul and honest R&B.

Plus, Sonny Bono plays maracas on the album (as opposed to Bono who covered track 12, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by Darlene Love--heresy, damn heresy).
I am stupidest when I try to be funny.

Bah Humbug is freaking right. IT started snowing again today, and it took me an hour and a half to get home (normally 20 minutes) because of freaking BLUE HAIRS driving BUICK REGALS!

God I hate buicks. >:|

Anyway, at least I can go skiing. ANd I got my little sister a cool gift.

I can't help it, I love Christmas. I have four kids from 16 to 12 and it won't be long before they're all gone so, I want to enjoy these last couple of Christmases with them. I love to see their faces when I found something they really wanted. That really is the best part of all of it. Of course, the worst part is when the bills come. Ugh!! And with four, they add up quickly.

When I was a kid, every year, my parents would play a Christmas Album by Mitch Miller and the Gang. I loved all those songs. I knew everyone by heart. I had the album myself, but somehow it got lost. I'd give anything to find it on CD.
My favorite song, Walking in a Winter Wonderland, was one my Daddy and I would dance to. Now, that he's gone, it's such a warm memory.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!!!

P.S. Speaking from experience the sex works. Not because you enjoy it, but because the thought of "enjoying" it and going into labor at the same time scares the daylights out of you.

No Christmas song will ever top "Father Christmas" by The Kinks. A true work of art.

I used to hate Christmas, due to the fact that the absolute worst moment of my life happened on December 23. Now, it doesn't bother me so much and I try to enjoy the season.

Kacey:

go here:
http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver.../ITEMID=788568

they don't have an audio sample of winter wonderland, but of some of the other songs. With S/H, prob only cost ~$10...

Merry Christmas!

(I should get a cdnow commission!)

re JingleCats: Speaking of wacky holiday songs, yesterday I heard ac/dc's new song, "I want a Mistress for Christmas." Yike.

i figued i post ca$h's christmas wish poem
"twas the night before christmas and all through the house, the only animal stirring was ca$h touching his mouse.
when all of a sudden there arose such a clatter, ca$h sprung from his imac to see what was the matter.
he ran down the stairs with hardly a care, to find britney spears, naked, just standing right there.
he thought to himself "do i touch her?", "do i dare?
then he thought "what the hell?" "why should i care"
he grabbed her and ran up to his room,
and as he closed the bedroom door he said "thank you santa, tell mom she wont see me too soon"
