• Close all Finder windows
• Open a new Finder window
• Set it to the size you want
• Close the window
From then on the Finder should open new windows with the size you specified.

FALSE.
"New windows" (as in *newly*created* folders) have a fixed size set by Apple.
If there is some trick for manipulating the "default" size, that for sure ain't it.

Umm. New windows as in "new windows" not as in "new folder windows".
It depends on what you're trying to do. You cannot set the window size for windows of a new folder. But you can set the size you get whenever you select "New Finder Window".

Basically what you are asking for is what everyone that has ever thought FTFF has asked for. All of my finder windows are different sizes... I just decided to live with it. Let's hope Leopard fixes this.
