I have found that AppleShare IP 6.2 does not work correctly with Mac OS 9. It appeared to be functioning at first, but I ran into trouble downloading files via FTP and using Remote Administration. Eventually, I couldn't even change a user's password because the file had become corrupted. I then decided to disable AppleShare IP and just use Personal File Sharing, which adds file sharing over TCP/IP in Mac OS 9. But when I disabled the AppleShare IP package in the Extensions Manager and restarted, I could not enable File Sharing in the File Sharing control panel (error: File sharing could not be enabled). I deleted all the AppleShare-related preferences, including the Users and Groups Data File, and I restarted. I was then able to start File Sharing.
I found no articles in Apple's TIL regarding this, but I have heard that AppleShare IP 6.3 will add Mac OS 9 compatibility.
