Well, before I waste any more time on this, figured I'd see if people even like
it or would rather gouge their eyes out with a spoon.

Let me know what ya like... don't like... blah blah.

One night of boredom turned into this, hope it's decent...

Looks real cool!

But widget sizes look a bit unimplementable to me
Also, (just my humble opinion) the shadowing on the titlebar widgets kinda sticks out because it implies that light's coming from the top right corner of the screen instead of the usual aqua top center (that you also use in the rest of the mockup).

The lighting should be alright, the buttons are bubbled, so despite the light coming from the top, you're bound to get a little side shading.

It's coming up a little brighter than I think it would be in the end, probably end up making the shading stand out a little more.

As for the widget sizes... if they are a slight bit too big, the buttons can easily be scaled to fit. Was thinking the same thing.

Lose the NickelCobalt etched pinstripe behind the Finder toolbar buttons on the brushed metal windows and you're good to go. Besides, the pinstripe shouldn't be done (even in NickelCobalt when it is realized) because it will not look good for all brushed metal apps... not all metal apps have toolbars.

The finder buttons look like pushed states. Other than that, it looks to be pretty interesting.

Hmm, funny, they look like sunken glass buttons to me... don't see how they look like they're the pushed state, considering I havent even posted a pushed state yet. o.O

they don't look pushed to me. their color seems a little off (too much of it really, considering the widgets), but other than that I like the sunken effect.

Well, I had planned on making the buttons more of a green/lcd background (and no this isnt at all influenced by prolcd, which I dont like really, but I had worked on an app gui that had an lcd a year or so ago that I thought would look great as a theme).

I'm going to make em a bit more green in the end, and the rollover state would be a very dark green lcd/pixel idea. Maybe also give a blue variation, somewhat like a cell phone blue bg.

It's still just something I'm toying with, I don't know at all how to use themepark, and I really don't have the time to learn it yet. So maybe in... oh I don't know... a year or two this theme might see the light of day. I've pretty much scrapped my contest theme, doesnt seem to be all that popular with anyone except me.

Ya, orcinus got it. Although Im sure if all buttons in the theme looked like that it would work well.

I see almost no similarity between the two if thats what your getting at. The only thing that I see is the shape of the window title bar widgets, but still... nothing that cries out copycat.

I think he's pointing out that both mockups have a grey "color"scheme, fade from light to dark vertically within elements, and both mockups are now posted in the same thread. Based on this evidence, I think it's only fair that we feed CobraHQ to the fishies.

Sorry wibs, but thats no mockup...

http://izappy.web.infoseek.co.jp/themes.htm

Anyways, there are a ton of grey themes and the color scheme for the Finder buttons is more of a yellow/green color (like an old Palm Pilot screen). There also is a shine on the buttons, not a gradient as seen in Alumite. Although its too close to tell, they dont look much the same to me.

I think you should go ahead and get this realised somehow. I really like those widgets- soo glossy and pretty. And the sunken toolbar buttons look good too. Why not be a little different from anyone else ? If it were up to me I would leave it at that. Some things are better in the eye of the beholder. And not all comments are for the better. Things like what can be done and not are okay but some of the esthetical comments are not. It's like the first assumption you get is usually the most correct one.

Well, here's an update on this little endeavour.

Still things I want to go over again... like that menu window... I dunno
I'm not sure if I'm happy with the menubar yet, but I've got a little
time to tinker with it.

Ideas... comments... suggestions... bring em on. Oh, and this time
I used better glue.

Hey nice, very nice except for the tittle bar that I don't
really like but that's just a matter of taste.

What is that font you're using there?

I think the titlebar widgets look blurry and less sharp compared to the other elements in the theme. They need some thightening up so they look as crisp as your buttons and other stuff... How about using a horizontally stretched version of the middle radio button as a widget? Would add a nice touch of green to the title bar...

And I definitely don't like the Titanium7-esque menus, sorry

Other than that, it's looks top notch

Can't wait to use it...

Ya, I wasn't too sure about those menu's either... good call.

Titlebar widgets, I'll mess with them some more, may make some entirely new ones as well... always a choice.

The font is called Bit3 click here check it out

I'm definitely going to rethink that menu pulldown.

Looks nice, except it's another LCD theme now...

Edit: You might make the nasty LCD background color a blue like a back light...? just an idea to help distinguish it from all the other LCD themes that have pooped-up.

I was thinking of making it blue, but I had in reality made this gui over 2 years ago... and I wanted to make a theme out of it eventually. (and really, Pro LCD looks awful to me)

And these are just mockups, I haven't got the time to learn themepark at the moment, so this will come a distant second to paying work.

The menus look like Titanium. Great idea otherwise. My recommendation: Use the Ti style, but change the color to orange-ish.

No, keep it orange-ish. It's glossy and 3d, so it's not so much like an LCD.

(as a side note, I'm a fan of shiny UIs like this and AlumiteX.)

I think if I end up making this theme, I'll make a green, blue and orange lcd set.

I plan on changing that menu window... not happy with it. Thinking I may make the window a little darker at the edges... and cleaning up the widgets.

Any other suggestions?

Oooh... beautiful control rendering - colors are absolutely spot on perfect Love the bevels on the titlebars, they remind me of my OS9 BBX Platinum kit a bit. Let me play devil's advocate and stir the pot a bit - to me, this theme has the potential to become a true original OSX classic, but (to my eye) it needs to be simplified a bit for consistency and usability... this is what I would recommend (although my opinion means sh*t and you should really do what you personally feel is best for the theme):

1. simplify the titlebar - get rid of the cut-out pieces and notches, they're a bit gratuitous and unnecessary... sweep that bevel straight across.

2. discard the metal-rendered control elements (widgets and slider thumbs) and make all control surfaces consistent with that absolutely beautiful green jelly LCD thing you've got going on. Your jelly LCD stuff here really is amazing and will be great fun to interact with.

3. simplify the menu... the floating menu item thing is gimmicky, not highly usable... maybe go with flat metal panels with the jelly for selected items

The most popular and usable themes tend to follow a formula, (even subconsciously) the themer has developed some 'rules' and stuck by them throughout the design. The fewer styles used across the board, the cleaner and more 'together' a theme will seem. ie. if your jelly controls in inactive state have a certain look, carry that out throughout the entire design - into the menus even. In the case of this theme, I'd stick with beveled metal and flat metal panels for architectural elements (ie. backgrounds and window borders/titlebars) and the cool jelly LCD stuff for controls... the unselected menu items and intricate metal titlebar/widget thing seem (to my eye at least) to be introducing unecessary convolutions to the most appealing aspects of the overall design - namely your jelly controls and slick beveled metal.

My 2, anyways. Again, feel free to ignore me completely

Tha mastah gives suggestions... and the young grasshoppa must listen.

1. I've had a few people mention removing the cut section of the titlebar... thinking I'll do that.

2. Main reason I'm adding those metal pieces, is because I still want this theme to retain some kind of cellphone/device idea to it. I may try and see what they look like in the green... but methinks the metal shall stay.

3. DEFINITELY changing that horrid pull down menu... it was an idea, and I admit, a bad one. A better plan is in the works.

Thanks for the suggestions... now, do you have some way of instantly transferring your knowledge of Themepark directly into my brain? That would make my life 100 times easier.

Let's take a look :

Umm... the widgets are different shapes and materials... the loader bars
are totally different... my slider bar is the same as my widgets... I use green...
the buttons are indented on mine as opposed to raised... hell, I even use a
darker grey.

So... how are these identical again? I guess my idea of making a window...
in OSX... with widgets at the top... and making it grey gave away that I
copied alumite huh... well you caught me!

I'm baffled.

New mockup is kickin', but are the rounded progress bar edges possible?

Oh yeah, and the comparison photo is hilarious, since there is absolutely nothing there that compares.
