Hi every one and thank's for helping me. First, let me start by telling you that i'm faily new with Final Cut Pro and i just recently bought my Apple Tv. What i'm trying to do is simple (so i tought) I want to convert/export my Final Cut pro movies to my Apple TV. I tried with Compressor and with Quick Time (not pro) with no success. I can watch the movies in iTunes but my Apple TV won't see them. What am i doing wrong? I tried different setting and nothing works. Maybe i should also tell you that i'm filming in HDV with my Sony HC1. Thank's in advance for all your help.

What output profile are you using in Compressor? Is it Apple TV compatible? What container are you using?

You're going from HDV source to 4:3 output at 15fps? That seems... insane.
And 368 kbps? That's about the right quality for PDA, not a TV.

Unfortunately I don't know Compressor well enough to help you. I was hoping you did.

Export to Apple TV straight from Final Cut (QTP/Compressor), from Apple Discussions. I don't have Final Cut Studio 1 installed on my home system, however I can access to it at work.

Meanwhile, don't FCP come with QuickTime Pro license?

So looks like FCP does able to do that. I grabbed a test video from one of the Get a Mac TV ad, imported it on FCP, FIle -> Export -> Using QuickTime Conversation -> Format: Apple TV, hit Save.

I was able to make a test but when exported, i lost my 16 X 9 ratio. I ended up with 4.3 image ?????

Would you know why?

That's strange. This time I took the HD version of the new iPod+iTunes TV ad and exported it to Apple TV, it kept the same 848 x 480 pixels. I'm curious about the setting.

The problem i have is that when i choose the Apple TV setting, i can't mod or change anything in that setting. Is it the same with you?

Yes.

BTW, have you tried exporting it from QuickTime Player?

If you can export to the Apple TV codec (m4v) than you have Quicktime Pro on that computer. The player only lets you open and view media files.
The settings option seems to be locked for regular television settings *shrug* and if you do export your movie to MPG4 it should be 720x480 for standard definition and 720X540 for HD or DVD with at least 29.9 fps. Anything less and the video will go so slow.

Try the following:

1) Export a reference movie from Final Cut Pro.
2) Open the movie in QuickTime Player.
3) Open the Movie Properties window.
4) Select the video track.
5) Under Visual Settings, uncheck Preserve Aspect Ratio, then manually enter a size in the Scaled Size fields. Probably 854 x 480 in your case.
6) Export to Apple TV as normal.

If you have FCP you have QT Pro. If your Quicktime is up to date just select Export for Apple TV.
