Hey everyone. I'm downloading files off the internet, and they're unstuffing file, but are then creating .dmg files that won't open. Is there anything I'm doing incorrectly, or something that isn't set right? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Let's show 'em why Macworld 2003 won't be like Macworld 2002.

If Disk Copy doesn't do it, try mounting the image at the command line with hdid and see if it works.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

And to fix this problem go the the Stuffit site and update your Stuffit Expander. I believe the latest release fixes this problem.

(If none of the above helps)

Did you install the BSD subsystem when you first installed OS X? Last year, I installed OS X 10.0 without the BSD layer and couldn't mount dmgs. I don't know if it's the same with 10.1 or not but if you didn't install BSD, it's worth a shot to try it. (I don't even know why that's optional)

Thanks guys. Dragging to DiskCopy did the trick. I still don't understand why they don't mount from within the operating system. I could have remembered them doing it before I updated to 10.1

Get info on a .dmg. Choose "Open with Application" from the pull-down. Choose Disk Copy and click the "Change All..." button so all .dmgs open with Disk Copy.

That should solve your problem.
