I have a mid 2011 MacAir, works fine, however over the past few months I've slowly developed quite painful fingertip pain. I've been away on vacation for awhile, and found my finger tip pain completely gone. However, only an hour on the Mac, and the pain returned. I did a search, and it seems others have reported similar sensitivity, and suggested covering the track pad with screen protector material. I'll give it a try - anyone else have this experience? Some say it's only reported on Macs.

After a few days of using only the mouse the stinging sensation has almost completely subsided. Interestingly, using my son's new MacBook Pro track pad I haven't had that same sting. Someone on another site mentioned that it's believed there's a protective coating on the track pads which can wear off - I have no idea. Now to cancel my docs appt to try and determine what was going on. Relieved.

Was it like a sudden electrical shock or just constant pain only when touching the trackpad? This is very strange.

the sensation is similar to working with fiberglass without gloves, and having tiny bits of fiberglass embed in the fingertips. The pain eventually goes away, but does stay for quite awhile after, and needs to wear off. Not an electrical shock feeling though.

Last post on this. I finally received protective film for an ipad screen, and used that to cover the trackpad. It was an immediate relief, and maneuvering around is just as it was last year. I might have mentioned this before, but touching anywhere on the Mac, besides the trackpad results in no painful irritation. Problem, though not solved, dealt with.
