I have a 1ghz SD Powerbook, and purchased an additional AC adapter for my office. I noticed that every time I plugged in at home (with the adapter that came with the 'book), the green light would not turn on. However, the office adapter worked fine. I figured out, through trial and error, that if you unplug the wall outlet socket from the square adapter, and plug it back in, the green light comes on (no need to restart or sleep the PB). It seems to me that the problem is NOT with the energy saving features of the PB (as has been proposed), but is a problem with some AC adapters.

yep I do exactly the same thing, no restarts needed. Seems like the power adapter has a circut breaker somewhere and u need to reset it by unplugin and plugin it from the socket.

Where is your proposed solution??
Yes, you have to disconnect the adapter from wall power to get it to reset. (And with a few exception you seem to be able to use the same outlet)
This is not a solution to the problem. The problem is that you can leave a charging or charged PowerBook plugged in and come back sometime later, expecting that if you need to that you can unplug and go mobile. . . . instead you return to find that the light on the power plug has gone out and the computer has run the battery flat.
I had my second AC adapter repeat this performance less than 24 hours after receiving it . . . .
