I'm not sure if I should take that as a "wait" vote, or if I should read between the lines and keep feeding the bee addiction....
And now is the time for the best question of all...
do we *like* the Direwolf20 mod, and the world therein, or should we look to other pastures?

I would wait till the 1.5 / 1.6 changeover before answering that. There's some question of Elorams ability to update Redpower fast enough for the community.

Yeah, so i went to Age 10 and started suffocating in chunks that wouldn't load and my inventory was clear. Re-logging crashed the server I think.

(of all the days for my daughter to have a dance recital...)
Looks like it's back up now. no idea what happened: logs weren't clear.
that said, I've found this new version to be ... buggy at best. that, and since i updated dynmap isn't working right. Rather than half-ass a fix for that, I'm going to proceed with my original intent and split off a separate web server. Besides, activity has been low (weather must be nice)
and on another note.... heh, trains. we have trains now. heh. trains.

odd... I'm not seeing many hostile mobs on the main world, either near the village or out in the boondocks.
did someone make a huge mob grinder that's sucking them all up?

While I do have an idea on how to do that, I have not. The F3 display shows entity counts.

so was messing around with a train last night, just for fun. a locomotive with one car and a player in it, set to full speed, feels about as fast as running in augmented power armor. Not quite as fast as a fully ramped up high speed rail, but plenty fast enough for reinforced rail. That said, expect "cycl0pse's scenic railroad" to open soon...

Sorry, just caught this today. Last backup before Friday was May 29 (wednesday). Loaded that player file and bounced the server. I'll be online this evening working on the railroad, so if you can't get on again shoot me a text.

Well we couldn't save the all Alpine biome mining age. And with it went my TBM. I made a new mining age. It's stable but not always noon like I wanted. It has several mountainy terrains to choose from.

Couple things.
1: Blaze, how was the lag last night in the new mining world? Looks like Dynmap did it's thing and mapped as you went... was it disruptive?
2: I bounced the server and changed the difficulty level... still haven't seen a hostile mob.
3: anyone have any ideas why the hostile mob spawning is pretty much non-existent? Pouring over the config files but no luck so far...

There was some slowness due to the chunk generation when traveling outwards but no block lag or star bouncing.

hmmmm.... may do a chunk load test tonight in the mining world. If it's a bit laggy, I have at least 1 more processor core I can toss at the box.

I think the mob problem is thaumcraft stupidity. I went into the swamp and dozens of wisps were there in the unloaded chunk. This is why passive mobs stay around but don't randomly spawn. I'm AFK in the swamp for a while.

I think your Thaumcraft theory holds water. I was out laying track and finally, FINALLY saw a real mob (group of skeletons). No wisps to be found near them. SO.... I'm going to dig into the thaum config tomorrow and see what I can learn.

OK, made a bizarre system.properties configuration change in the hopes that mob spawning resumes.
If it doesn't, I'm going to have to resort to some drastic measures.
If anyone is on before I get home this evening, please let me know if you see a difference.

OK, day 2 of mobs spawning as they should. That's a positive thing. Did some exploring in the Twilight Forest and found... a hydra! Pretty cool, really. Didn't kill him, so if anyone wants to see a 3 headed dragon thing I linked a book in the nether book-junction.
Still haven't found a new dark tower yet. Oh well.

Did you create the link book right next to the hydra so we will spawn right next to it and die?

In hindsight, that would have been funny, assuming the book survived the hydra. I created the linking book up in a tree overlooking the Hydra at a safe distance. By "in a tree" I actually mean "on top of a tree".

Btw, a few days (last week?) I logged in, suited up, and clicked on a mystcraft world in the tower. I ended up falling in a dark place, with no ground. I had a home book, but clicking on it did nothing.
So I'm just hanging out in space, chilling.

was it the mining age, by chance? or a different world...
Either way, I restored your player file to June 3. From the file dates, it looks like the issue occurred on June 6th.
If you still have issues, let me know and I'll restore it further back.

thx!
I don't recall which one, but I do think it was to the right of the "forest stable" because I went there successfully before, and said nah, let's try something new.

Spawning in the nether worked fine. I made a tier 1 Wither Skelly Soul Shard and also netted 3 Wither skulls...anyone up for a Wither Boss fight?

Not to be a buzz-kill but you can kill the wither with: iron armor, iron or diamond sword with smite, 1 instant health potion, 2 regen potions. Just make a 3x2 tunnel ~20 blocks long and spawn him at the back.
The quantum suite helmet negates the withering effect. Let me know when and I'll be there to play SWAT.

I think we should dress down for the fight. Maybe a Power 4 bow, Steel Sword / Steel Armor, and a couple health and regen potions per person? Or is that suicide?

If it's going to be a group of us, I'm fine with dressing down. You list may be a bit low, since the server is on hard right now.
The power 4 bow is good, but some armor enchantments would be a good idea, as would be some health potions (just in case).
Maybe we can build a quick Colosseum style arena for the fight That would also be helpful to contain the wither if we have to run and regroup until Blaze can go SWAT (obviously it would need a roof so the wither stays contained).
heh. thinking it through, I rather like the idea of a wither-fighting arena. ... I will say I'll miss the jumping of the power suit, though

I think the limit is 32 or maybe 64 per side. I crafted allot if the pieces. I can use a tesseract for power. It can't be an always on thing like my tekkit dome was. If someone builds up an "arena" with a square interior I'll add in the force field. There's something I have to test in creative that will only affect me end of things. Or someone could pick were, I configure the force field and someone makes it pretty.

OK, so it has to be square? I can work with that.
I'll head on this evening and find a suitable location. I'm thinking E of the village, maybe right on the shore of that small lake.

The wither flies around chasing anything that moves blowing up the world. You probably want a spot far enough away from the village that he's in an unloaded chunk if you die.

Pics or it didn't happen! Here we go:
The start of the Wither Arena. The main center area is 30x30.
Found these in the Twilight Forest:
Because I haven't really posted pics of this, my blast furnace for steel production.
And finally, a strange structure out in the desert:

Heh, awesome.
Do we want to wait until the stadium is finished for the first wither? I can get my wither skelly spawner going for additional skulls if we want to fight the first one somewhere else.

Some blood and a trophy apparently. You can get a diamond and a gold block from feeding 16 wool to a quest ram.
