hardly surprising is it? It is a pity Apple didn't mention the possibility of this happening in the installation notes though isn't it.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but a kind genius named Glenn wrote a program called "DIMMCheck" that verifies RAM compatibility before running the firmware update. It can be found here.
I ran this program, it said my RAM was ok, I took the plunge and updated my firmware, and... success!!! To paraphrase one poster elsewhere, I am in new firmware bliss! My Titanium now runs twice as fast, balances my budget, files my tax return and fixes me coffee in the morning.
In addition to this tool, Glenn also has the magical power to fix RAM which has been disabled by the firmware update!!! All of you who have lost RAM may have a fix!!!
Here is what one poster had to say:
"I downloaded the DIMMCheck tool because one of my 128 Meg DIMMs was no longer working.. I emailed the results to Glenn.. By the time I got home from work, he had emailed me the tool to fix my RAM. He had already done the tool for the same RAM for someone else..
And guess what??
I worked. I now am running 256 megs of ram again and I am happy!!!!

Do any of you understand that Apple has done us a favor with this update? One thing I can tell you having 17 years of Mac experience (and computers in general) is that troubleshooting bad RAM is very difficult, and bad RAM causes nightmares! For those who bought the cheapest, crappiest RAM they could buy, you're screwed. For anyone that bought good RAM from reputable Mac resources, you're gonna be fine.
