My silly project is to attach an LCD monitor and some kind of drawer for a keyboard and mouse to an NSF-type wire shelf system to facilitate interacting with my Linux machine.
There are many other things on the shelf system, including two printers at countertop level, and my broadband box, router and switches. Put simply, there isn't a lot of available real estate, which is why I need to put the monitor and keyboard somewhere else.
The monitor has a 100X100 VESA connection, and the keyboard and mouse are wired. Cabling and reach aren't a problem.
The real issue I've had is finding a VESA monitor stand/support that doesn't require a solid desktop to fasten to. The NSF shelf-specific keyboard drawers I've found are also kind of expensive,
Any tips or suggested sources would be greatly appreciated.

I’m off work this week, but that sounds like the setup we use in our clean room. We have keyboard drawers that bolt underneath and vesa monitor towers that are bolt on as well.

I'd pay good money for that monitor. Unusually transparent. Looks like a 24-27".

I’m more taken by the idea of putting little flags on the tips of my shelf rods.

My pleasure!
I wanted my Apple T-bolt display armed out on a free-standing pole instead of my desk. They hooked me up with everything, pole included.
The arm lost its lift after about 4-1/2 years. I assume it only needed some diddling with the tension screw, but I never checked because for unrelated reasons that was the right time to retire the whole setup.

Thanks for the ideas, subego.
I have found literally a dozen arm mounts, but all of them were essentially designed to bolt TO a wall. I'm looking to go kinda cheap on this (the computer itself cost about $75), so I'm going to examine those other arm mounts to find out if any of them would be adaptable to U-bolts around my shelving poles.
If not, I'll spend more money and "do it right," but I gotta try.
Likewise with keyboard drawers. I have found exactly the right drawer, which comes with a little mouse platform, but it costs almost as much as the computer did, so I'm still looking...

I think I've figured it out. Not U-bolts...conduit hangers.
Like this:
I got three hangers for 3/4" conduit. Conduit, like pipe, is sized by (nominal) inside diameter, so 3/4" conduit has a roughly 1" outside diameter. Since these hangers are fairly springy, even if it's a little tight or a little loose, I should be able to secure it nicely.
So now I'm looking at wall mounted monitor arms, many of which are pretty inexpensive. I'll update when I have progressed from this stage.
