Memorex made the actual drive or used someone else drive?
Actually, I don't have faith on any Memorex products. I am happy with my Pioneer DVR-106D drive.. not the latest and greatest.. but it is stable and reliable.. and cheap. I heard that DVR-107 supports DVD-RAM read too.

The real question is where is all the 8x media? Still very hard to find and $$$. My DVR-105 works fine for the time being, and my FW 48x CD-RW picks up where the DVR is slacking...

Hello
went down to BestBuy and the Memorex had a rebate with 30 day return to BestBuy and ended up 40 cheaper than the Pioneer, which I was originally gong to get.
will report how it works in the G4 Dual.
I got 8x as eventually that media will drop in price, and I only plan to get one burner. 4x media will soon be offered where I live outside boston for "free" as 5 - 10 pack "rebates" at staples/compUSA/Cuircut city to get me into their stores on the week end.
got zillions of CR-R's this way: good excuse to see all the stuff I don't need, etc in the stores.
Plana to transfer VCR tapes to DVD via a digital MinDV Canon I just got with iMovie and iDvd. saw the "classes" at the local Apple store and its really phenomenal what these programs do.

For once I'm waiting for the media to come down in price (or become avail to begin again) before I buy. When 8X DVD-R discs are readily available the burners should be much cheaper, and OSX will start supporting the drives without hacking. (A royal pain in the ass, see xlr8yourmac.com's drive database for more on that nightmare under 10.3.) Toast aside, I use the iApps as well.
