os9 on new ibook

i currently own a imac (blueberry 350mhz slot loader 1999) and it came with os9. i am planning on buying a new ibook in the very near future. if it comes with osx or even 9.1 i really dont want to use those os's can i use the os9 cd that came with the imac?(i heard somewhere on these forums that some of the os9 cd's were specific to that individaul machine and would not work on other apple computers) i use os9.0.4 on my imac and it works flawlessly. so can i use the os9 cd that came with the imac and then upgrade to 9.0.4? ( i kept the os9.0.4 installer)

The new iBook will not start up from any system version older then what it originally came with. Neither the iMac CD or the 9.04 or 9.1 updaters/full install CD's will work on it. However, you can get rid of OS X.

What is your problem with 9.1? In my experience, it is much more stable than 9.0.4.

with my pismo, 9.1 is:
faster, tighter, more stable than any mac os (since 8.6, my previous fave)
ck out wake-from-sleep on 9.1...
anyway, the new iBook has a slightly-customized os.
just check the internet for updates to any apps/control panels/etc that you use.
everything i run works beautifully with 9.1
