I'd like to think you're horribly wrong about this. Surely even a lot of conservatives are smart enough not to vote for Trump. I wonder whether he might have an issue with voter turnout because even people who would never vote democrat might still consider Trump to be a joke and abstain altogether.
And is anyone in the centre (assuming anyone still is) going to swing right for Trump? Again, I can't see people going that far out of their way to affect change, especially when they know the black guy can't get in again.

Why would conservatives pick a Socialist over Trump? They're not in question.

I'm sure there were conservatives who voted for Obama. He's a Kenyan, Muslim socialist.

I'd vote for Sanders over Trump, but I'd want at least one house of congress controlled by the Rs, to keep him in check.

Donald Trump signs RNC loyalty pledge - CNNPolitics.com
Donald Trump continues to confound me.
I mean, if you thought he wasn't serious about running this would make sense, but he's already blown so many predictions and expectations out of the water that I'd have felt I was making the same mistake again. And then there's the subplot about this not being worth the paper it's written on, legally speaking, giving it an entirely new possible anti-establishment angle when he blows it off if he doesn't get the nomination.
I'm just curious – since his favorability defies conventional political logic – if his followers might be a little disappointed with him bowing to the establishment on this one. Considering how wrong predictions have been, watch this somehow bring more establishment friendly voters in.
In short, WTF

His quote sounds pretty "dog whistle" to me. He pretty much flat out said "I'm signing this to increase my chances of winning".
There's an implication there of "if I don't win..."

I don't see how this changes how they treat him. Either way they don't want him as the nominee. If anything this gives them false security about mistreating him.

That's even better.
There's obviously a significant segment of the party who's unhappy with the status quo.
If the RCC keeps trying to burn him, he'll totally capitalize on that.
In the martyr department, he'll make Kentucky woman look like a piker.

Well, it's more than that. He's essentially a tea partiers wet dream. Anti-establishment, racist, and belligerent. All that seems to outweigh his other views and his political past. The dichotomy has been mind-blowing for me.

The way these things go, if one party goes with an extreme candidate, the other party tends to move to a more traditional, centrist candidate, so that matchup is unlikely.
Also, if Bernie starts to pull close to Clinton, it is because Clinton is losing support and he is the only other candidate. At that point, I think Biden will throw his hat into the ring.

No. What opportunity would Joe Sixpack have had to hear much about Obama? His time in the Senate?
Prior to the election many Conservatives were criticizing his lack of experience. Which is it, was he an inexperienced relative unknown, or not?

Inexperienced doesn't mean unknown.

What does being unknown, which he wasn't, have to do with being inexperienced, which he was (woefully)?

His primary victory in the 2004 election and subsequent address at the Democratic convention, which got quite a bit of attention (And is the reason why Jimmy Smits' character in the last seasons of West Wing is based loosely on him).

I'm only two hours into this freakin' marathon, but this debate is awful. Almost every question brings up Trump, and all the questions are name-dropping and trying to start fights rather than address the topics. On the other side several candidates are going hard in the opposite direction and showing some serious 'party unity' making me sense some order from on high.
I don't think Trumps numbers will being going up after this one, but you know, when has anyone been right about Trump yet?

It strikes me as rather foolish of Trump to alienate FN. Surely a lot of his voter base are going to be FN viewers?

Making the rounds of my facebook: Photos of Trump "Make America Great" merch with Made in China tags. When questioned, Trump somehow manages to say it's China's fault for making prices so darn cheap.
<facepalm>
In comparison, Bernie swag is made in USA.

After talking with Bernie's people, I'd vote for him (I'd choose him over Hillary or Trump in a heartbeat). The whole 90% tax rate for the top 10% is rhetoric, really he'd aim for another 5-10% and an increase in taxes on luxury items and fuel. I could handle that. Plus, on the 2nd amendment he's actually to the Right of Trump, or about where we are now.

I was talking about about taxes earlier. I can give chapter and verse why it's a bad idea to raise taxes.
Buuuuut... we're on the hook for $2 trillion for war expenses. Of course we need to raise taxes. Selling ourselves to China isn't such a swell idea either.
Aaaaand... I kinda sorta supported the war. If I can't handle a reasonable tax increase to pay for it, I should really just go **** off.

Most candidates you triangulate from their record in politics, and you don't even need to do that with Sanders. He's an unusually straight shooter.
