Has anyone read Cormac McCarthy's book The Road? I think its the best book I've read all year.

It's a very haunting piece of fiction about a father and son left over after some type of unmentioned disaster strikes the earth. Whatever happened destroyed almost all plant and animal life and left the sky clouded with ash. Most of the people that survived have resorted to cannibalism and hunt the father and his son while they try to travel across the country with a shopping cart filled with canned food.

Despte the setting, the book isn't a mad max type of story, but rather its about how this little boy and his Dad managed to hang onto their ethics and hope while dealing with people who have completely abandoned their humanity. It sounds like a downer but its actually a very beautiful story.
