I have a new 40 inch Samsung LCD TV and have begun to notice some uneven backlighting in the upper left hand corner. Upon researching this issue, it seems this is called a "flashlight" or "cloud" effect. Strangely, it is not present during the first hour to hour and a half after turning the set on. Then, slowly this cloud appears and becomes noticeable during dark scenes or situations when the TV is on but the screen is black.
Normally, I would have returned it. But, this set is big and heavy and would have been a pain to ship back. Right now I'm trying to decide if its worth the effort to have a technician take a look at it since its still under warranty. I've heard horror stories of people who have tried to get this kind of thing fixed only to have it made worse when the tech attempts to fix it. Apparently, uneven backlighting is caused by uneven pressure on the LCD. When a tech comes to your home to replace the screen they lay it flat--which again causes uneven pressure. . .
It's not a *huge* deal and I enjoy the TV. Still, I spent a lot on this set and I think it should have even backlighting. Has anyone had this experience? Did you just live with the uneven backlighting or if you got it repaired did that resolve the issue?
